Claustrophobic Front Diff
Hi, the front diff of my ff rally doesnt turn over smooth, so I took it apart but all the gears "n" stuff were fine, does it have something to do with shims????

RE: Claustrophobic Front Diff
are the gears dry or greased?

RE: Claustrophobic Front Diff
They're greased and debris free, I dunno whats wrong w/them, probably something obvious that i cant see.

RE: Claustrophobic Front Diff
i have had this with mine, eventually i just gave up and ran them anyway. they shut up after a while, but i did eventually strip them. not sure if that was purely down to my 18 engine, but after stripping a few i went to the hardened sets - pricey, but still alive after 2 years...
im sorry mate, i dunno what else to suggest. mine seemed to have a kinda high spot on the large 43t diff gear, i could feel it as i turned the wheels, but couldnt see anything wrong after i stripped it - is urs the same? |
RE: Claustrophobic Front Diff
I strip my diffs down so often, I leave memos for myself in there!! No matter how many times I strip and grease them I still have clicking from time to time. As you say though, it gets noticably less if you fit the hardened steel spurs.
