Engine stalls

First of all HELLO!

Just wondering if this is a common problem with the Cen FF but I find that if I go full throttle then brake hard the engine stalls. I have both the rally and the MT and they both do this. Any ideas????

RE: Engine stalls

Take your air filter off and look down into the carb while you apply the brakes with the controller. It might be your carb is closing when the brakes are applied. If so, just adjust your idle screw in a bit until the carb is open just a little.

RE: Engine stalls

There is a small gap left on both (the MT & buggy). If you let them idle then brake then they are fine its just if you go full throttle then brake. Could it be that the clutch doesn't have enough time to disengage???

how well do they idle? You could try tuning your lsn. Also i know on full size 4 stoke carburated vehicles if the idle is set too low they idle ok but if you rev them high and then let go of the gas they will stall.

Im going on holiday tomorrow and taking them with me so ill try adjusting the idle a bit and see what happens.

Im gonna be without the net for five days........ how am I going to survive?????????

Ill let you know how i get on.

Wehey.

Back from my hols with the update.

As it pissed it down or had temps of -2 most of the time only the MT came out (and then only the once). After some playing around with the carb settings i found lots of other probs occured so decided in my wisdom to do a compression test. Guess what...... it wasnt good news the engine is on its last legs so im on the lookout for a new engine (any suggestions welcome).

As for the buggy i didnt want to get it wet or muddy. Sorry but my girlfriend was complaining that i even took them with me let alone that i had to test run one and then clean it.

IF the engine stalls after full throttle followed by full brake, you should increase the throttle trim. Your carb. is probally close all the way cause the engine to run of of air. Incrase the throttle trim on your radio until you see aboug 1mm gap w/ full brake.

R/C Engine tends to run irrgularlly if the temperater is too cold. -2 degree is way too extreme. You will need to lean the engine more than usual to make sure the engine is inside the correct operation temp. Without adjusting the engine ratio, your engine is probablly running to rich. This can cause the truck to stall as well.

I always thought that in colder weather you needed to richen the mixture on the carb - colder air = denser air doesnt it?

More air requires more fuel I believe?

Please correct me if I am mistaken, but I thought leaning the engine in cold temps would simply burn the engine out and wreck it?

Basically check to see if the carb is closing all the way when you apply the brakes, ther should be a gap of about 1mm or so there. If your idle is spot on then thats the same gap you should see when you apply the brakes, but if the idle screw is not adjusted properly it will close up.
The idle screw is like a stopper screw.

..... Uh oh... It's colder than -2 C about 6-7 months of the year here lol. :D
I have had my MT2 running in -35 temps this winter. It it true that for any temp variance you do need to retune though, but the trick is to get a balance of temp and mixture. Since you are richening it up you're temps will fall, plus the ambiant temps decrease your engine temps, so when its real cold its best to cover any holes you have in the body of your RC to prevent airflow.
Of course everytime you drive throuh more than 2 inches of snow your engine cools down alot. Can't be good for it. Gues i better get working on a snow/rain shield for the engine.;)

Not too sure how to take that...

Engine exchange scheme anyone?

:D

OK - when the air gets colder around o degree C, to keep the engine temperature in the correct range you may need to lean the engine out to keep it warm. Temp between 40-80 degree F doesnt really make much difference.

If it begins to lean bog then you went to far, but the majority of our factory team makes the engine as lean as it can (to get horsepower) and keep the engine running in the correct operating temperature, (225-265 F.) Adjusting this setting is critical during all times of the day and nightime is no exception.

Another factor is the humidity . It affects the engine condition greater than temp. You want to richen up if its dry.

Hope that clears up what was said earlier.

That's right..." Hummmanity" does effect engine condition more than temp... Now which needle do I turn... :D

I dont know I go away for a day and everybody joins in (great aint it).

Ive had a little fun with my FF and tuned her better. The MT is dead at the moment while im waiting for a second replacement one way bearing. for some reason they can get hold of the spur gears and boy mounts next day but the bearing is on back order!!!!!

On the plus side I did get offerd a brand new Traxxas that had just been delivered straight out of the box at cost price cant make p my mind on that one though. ive got 2 electric and 2 nitro.........how many cars do i need????
