CT4S Torque Steer
 

Hi all,

I've recently bought a CT4S, my first nitro car, but far from my first nitro powered vehicle or rc vehicle in general, but I'm perplexed about a problem with it. The car behaves well at slow speeds, but accelerate hard and the it's impossible to keep in a straight line, it will end up spinning out almost every time, even if you try to slowly build up to a high speed, it's just impossible to keep it straight enough to do so.

I've set the alignment on it so it has the slightest bit of toe-in in the front, 0 toe in the rear, and a small amount of negative camber all around. The trim is correct, I get full left and right, but floor it hard in a straight line and your having to steer it just to keep it straight, which is tough to do. The stock tires are crap, not the ones it was advertised or shown with, I just replaced them today with some procompound tires w/v-tread on them but haven't been able to take it somewhere where I have enough room to fully test it, but I could see that it was still happening. The idea of this thing going in a straight line long enough to get anywhere near the advertised speed seems unfeasable.

Does anyone know why this might be? It's really frustrating, there's nothing visably wrong with the setup, all I can figure is the front differential is causing this somehow. Also another point of dissatisfaction w/the the car comes from the weak low/mid range acceleration. Yes it seems fast, but compared to my buddy's Yokomo, it's a joke. He can run circles around me, NO torque steer problem at all. And yes my engine if fully broken in and leaned out correctly

This will probably be the last belt drive nitro car I ever buy btw... I finally got the front drive belt to stay on but the tensioner is probably a little too tight to just to keep it on, and it accelerates the belt wear quite a bit. (I don't think this is a factor in the torque steer problem btw.) The car is neat, I like it, and I like most of it's features, though I would like to do a gear swap to pick up some low end torque, but who the heck sells that kit anyways??????? I can't find it as of yet.

Isn't there a locking front differential thats sold? Anyone think it might remedy this? If not, what is that supposed to address then anyways?

I've emailed CEN's customer service about this and gotten no response, hopefully they will address it here. (please!)

you have the tires glued on? im only asking cuz i have a new CT5, but have yet to take it to the smooth pavement to get it tuned in.. just ran 3 tanks thru for breakin..l i also have yet to glue my tires, but will be doing that soon... just a thought. i ve seen the CEN replys here so im sure someone from CEN will respond... i ve also heard a phone call to them will yield fantastic customer service, though i have yet to persoannly call them. i have seen that here in a few different posts. maybe it time to reach out and touch someone via 1800........
post a solution or further information as im sure this is not only a CEN issue, but a onraod car that moves...... inertia, tire size, quality, make, material. all can make a huge differance in tires, which is what makes or breaks steering and handleing at any speed.. have you tried to balance your tires. this will be one of my steps to ensure i have a solid set up ready for some Speed... in my opinion, the rims/tires are probably the most crucial ingrediant to a well handleing machine...

Hey, thanks for the response, but yep the tires were glued on, I don't think that the CA, or the amount I put on is the problem. You should go ahead and glue yours on, corner hard w/out it and your tires gonna start to roll off the rim. I have rotated the wheels around though to address the problem and it made no difference. I agree the appropriate tires matter, but assuming decent tires, I think the suspension setup is probably even more crucial. Mine was not setup correctly when I got it, ie. uneven amounts of camber etc, somewhat binding steering linkage. Thats all been addressed, but the problem is still there.

customrccars.com also has the front and rear solid differentials.

Have you tried them, what difference do they make?

CEN wanna chime in here?
