Why is there a creamy, milky center in my diff? It is like the middle of some candy bar. I know what a diff does. I know how it works and it's purpose. But I have never had one apart until now. I have an Mt2 that for a while was 2 wheel drive. I changed it back to 4wd and took the front diff apart to see what it looked like. There was a sticky glue like substance. I assume it is some type of silicone or grease, but it was very tacky and thick. It seemed to inhibit the gears from turning because it was so thick. My question is, what should my diff's look like inside as far as grease or silicone or whatever and how much should be in there.? What is the best lubricant for my diffs? Or is it not to lubricate. What should I see when I take apart a clean or new diff, and how do I get mine back to that state?

What you are seeing is the white grease that we use in our kits. You can clean and refill your diff with either white lithium grease or you can use a silicone racing grade lube at 5,000 weight to replace the stock grease in your MT2.

The grease will be thicker when it is at room temperature and will become more thin as your run your truck and the heat builds up.
