How bad is the Matrix's Drivetrain?

I came within an inch of buying one today then I thought I should check out some online opinions. Lots of praise for this buggies handling, features and finish but loads of complaints about its supposably woeful drivetrain. On another forum a member said he wore his out after 4 tanks of fuel. That.. if legit is terrible, worse than my mates Kyosho 7.5 (that thing used to fall apart on a regular basis but the drivetrain is still fine). Is it a major problem or has it just been blown out of proportion? Has Cen done anything to fix it?
I want a good RTR that I can race, but not one that requires constant fixing (F all range in Australia as well)

Any replies welcome.

I think it's been out of proportion!!
I'm still in brek in (darn weather) 10 tanks and no wear! I don't think he wore out his drivetrain in 4 tanks, but I do think it will wear faster then other buggies. you can change the diff cups and out drivers to OFNA and they will last. You should check with trackman on this, it was he who told me about the ofna parts.
I do think CEN should check this and tell us if they are planing on any updates!

Jadda. Just curios, what Ofna parts do you use to replace the Matrix diff cups and outdrives? Got a link or part number?

Thanks,

Hi alvinl

I got these part number from trackman

19003 front/rear outdrives 12.95pr
19006 center drives 16.95pr
19053 brake disks 5.95pr

I haven't tried them yet, but he had a friend that had have tried them with great success

Are they Hyper 7 parts?

Ermmm so they wear out fast? And you replace them with Ofna parts? May as well save $$ and buy a Hyper 7 or something then?

Zonk

They don't wear out any more then any other RC. A lot has to do with how you treat it. Every car/truck has some weak points thats just a fact of the hobby.

Has Cen done anything yet though to improve it as there seems to be lots of complaints.

tinybaum they wear out quicker than anything i have owned. but the buggy handles great, thats why i went to the
trouble of finding out what will work. the hyper 7 outdrives will work and eliminates the biggest gripe i have with
the matrix. zonk the matrix gets around the track so much easier than the hyper 7, its lighter and more responsive.
i just think the metal in the outdrives is too soft.

We have addressed the out drive wear issues and are currently in the testing stages of some new out drives that have been hardened in a different process. We should know in a few weeks if this will be the new standard of how we manufacture our out drives.

If there is a problem, just give it some time and we will address it and fix the problem in a timely manner.

Thank you.

This is good news CEN, let us know how it goes!!! I don't have any wear yet on my drive cups/out drives and that's good. It's also good that CEN is trying to address all the errors that comes with a new developed buggy.

Thanks

It is really cool of CEN Racing to come on here and tell us that you are working on a problem. I appreciate that. Even if I don't have a Matrix yet, that carries over to your other products. I cannot say I have ever seen the manufacturers of my other trucks do that for as long as I have been on RCU.

Sounds good but should a fairly common problem like this been smoked before the cars release? Apparently there was a lot of testing and research put into this model.

I think it should have been smoked before the release, but it didn't!!
Now i'm just happy that they are doing something about the problem!!
