Starting Mech.
- Thot I'd lost a OWB, but it's ok. Turns out it's the pin/spring deally behind the backplate. I'm thinking that it poss gummed up a lil over the winter and sprayed a little WD40. It helped, but the engagement seems sporadic. Wondering if the spring has lost some tension. Does it just pull out, can I stretch it a little ? It seems to be housed in a rubber type collar ?? Never been inside the 46. Thanx for any input

RE: Starting Mech.
I would replace the spring if it was my engine. The part number is G70357-11 for the spring, pin, and one way start shaft. G70357-35 will get you just the spring.

RE: Starting Mech.
thanx for the feedback .. can this be done just from the backplate end or is it an engine teardown. Seems premature to me, as I've only got 1 & 1/2 gallons thru it. thanx again

RE: Starting Mech.
Strike that ? Toothpick with grease got the spring out. Interesting .. 1 & 1/2 gal and the top coil and the bott coil broke off the spring. The down and dirty fix was to stretch the spring, works perfect, but don't think it will last. Sounds to me like a QC prob !

1 1/2 gallons on that spring is really good wear so you know! Stretching it will work for a while but replacement is your best bet.

RE: Starting Mech.
I fitted a brand new spring and pin, 2 tanks later the spring was crushed down to nothing!! [:o] So I stretched it back, but on the second attempt to start it the pin broke and took the starter plate with it.[:@][:@]
So my advise is change it NOW!! ;) |
