Metal Spur Gears Eat Clutch Bell Gears

After upgrading the spur gears to metal on my CEN MT2, 5 to 6 runs later, the new spur gears have chewed up gears on my clutch bell. Was I supposed to upgrade the clutch bell gears? They were already metal and the spur gears were plastic. Now they're running metal to metal, which seemed like they would last. But, oviously for only a few runs. What should have I done? Perhaps I should just go back to the plastic/nylon factory T44 and T47 factory spur gears. Any suggestions out there? :(

You clutch bell pinions are not metal they are alloy. We all have been trying to get Cen to make some metal pinions but we have not been getting any answers. I personally have decided to stick with the plastic spur gears until they figure out a solution

I was told there are replacement Steel Pinions. You can find them at www.customrccars.com. They have lots of CEN parts there.

Cen told me that they have no intention of producing steel pinionions in 11/14 ratio (stock mt). The stock ones are alloy and not suitable for use on steel spurs.

We have found, in stock ratio and in steel, the HPI 11/14 and the taller 13/16 bells. You will need a couple more clutch bearings (5x8x2.5mm) and some creative shimming to use them, but its not a big mission.

Bearings can be got from tower too, or many other places. Including Cen, but not the STEEL PINIONS in stock/suitable ratios for the mt.

Pics below are HPI pinions after a gallon of fuel and an OS.30 behind them, run only on the beach. Next up is Cens stock alloy mt pinions, after half a TANK with an OS.18 behind them run only on short grass. Hmmm, which ones to choose I wonder...?

notch - While it may fit on the engine, it is too tall a ratio and will burn clutches out and has a difference of 4 teeth between first and second gear rather than 3 teeth as per the Funfactor spurs.
So Im afraid it wont be any good at all.

We have looked at all options, and we simply need fairly hard steel 11/14 pinion sets. Especially for those of us running TMaxx wheels. Ive heard HPI have discontinued their 11/14, so we need an alternative.
