cen funfactor 2-speed shift problem
 

hi, ive had my new car for around 3 months now but for the life of my can i get the thing to shift. i tried doing small adjustments but im clue less on these "easy" adjustable cen 2 speed things can anyone give me some advice?

yes it has shifted once but right at the top end, so i dont tend to get it to shift becaue i wanna save my engine. but now it stopped completly

Start by making sure that the grub screw(shift point adjustment screw)is still there.Mine shifted perfect out of the box.Mine also suddenly stopped shifting.I couldnt figure it out.After I took it apart,the screw spring and ball were completly gone,mind you I had never made any adjustments.I ts hard to tell if it is still there with your allen wrench.Youre gonna have to use a flashlight or take it apart to tell.you will have to threadlock that grub screw after you get it set,or else it will come out every time.If you made any shiftpoint adjustment and didnt threadlock the screw,then theres a very good chance that the screw,ball and spring are gone.I contacted cen about this,and they send me enough screw,ball and springs to last a long,long time(free of charge).Check that out and get back to me.We will get that magnum running right;)

thanks for all ya help and just took it apart, (i hate takeing engine off it always beats everything ive tried, supa glue seems to work ok :) its beaten red and blue thread lock)and yep u were right no spring no bearing no nothing :( but im getting a new nitro car soon. hopefully a buggy but idk what to get lol maybe a matrix, any suggestions?

I dont know what to tell you about the buggys.I only do monster trucks but Im sure some of the guys on RCU can give you good advice on a buggy.Glad I could help with your funfactor.

the matrix buggies are good cars fun fast handle well especially on the washboard section of the track they just fly rigt over them.

I am also having some troubles with my shifting. Its the opposite for me though. I recently installed a new OS .18 motor in my Fun Factor, but now, it seems that the transmission runs or starts in 2nd gear all the time. I do hear it shifting when doing a long straight acceleration run, but, the shift not noticiable at all, like its barely even shifting at all. I made only a minor adjustment, about 2 turns more, on the shift point. Would that help , or hinder, the proper shifting. What's the correct shift setting for an OS .18 motor installed on a Fun Factor. Thanks to All. :D

cougar does the car seem to be getting to high speeds if so you need to tightne the shift point because it is shifting to soon. also when you replaced the motor did you replace your clutch or are you still running the same old clutch if so you might need to get new shoes they might be worn out and not grabbing

The car does seem to be running at high speed, but it does seem to be running slower than usual. I do believe that it is either, shifting way too soon, or, starting in 2nd gear. I did replace my factory shoes with aluminum one's. I am currently using a 3 shoe clutch. I did tighten 2 turns more than the factory settings, but should I be turning a few more turns. So if I tighten more, than the truck will shift later? and If I loosen, or lessen the number of turns, the truck will shift sooner? Knowing that, might help me. The factory setting is like 6.5 turns from beginining. So I should add another 2 or 3 turns tighter, to help it shift later. I know the OS .18 is a popular replacement engine for the CEN, just a drop and go motor, so has anyone else dealt with these issues too? thanks again. :D

I have re-checked my shift settings. The ball and spring are still there. The grub screw is tightened all the way in. The adjustment screw was set for 6.5 turns out, which is 2.5 turns more , out, than the factory setting for a NT-16 motor. Seeing how I am using a much more powerful OS .18 motor, I probably should be adjusting the screw for a few turns less, or more tightened, to handle the OS motor. I have re-adjusted the adjustment screw/ball/spring to 2.5 turns from totally screwed in. Before, my CEN MT2 seemed like it was running in 2nd gear from the start. Giving full throttle the truck starts slow, but accelerates quickly then running rather fast on a full straight away. If I give it full throttle, after reaching a certain speed, the engine will totally bog down with fuel, so it seems, and will automatically seem to run only at an idle's pace until I slow down again. I am sure that is a different issue with the HSN setting. I was running the truck rather rich the other day, when it was very hot and dry in California last Sunday. Can anyone verify if I am making adjustments correctly? Since the factory NT16 motor is set for 4 turns out. I should lessen the number of turns out for a more powerful motor. Less turns will make the transmission shift sooner, is this correct? So more turns out, will make the transmission shift much later. Which is why the truck was probably already starting up in 2nd gear when it was set for 6.5 turns out. Tonight I made the changes so I will not be able to test my adjustments until tomorrow mid-day. The neighbors really go crazy if I run my trucks before 11am. Go Figure [&:]. thanks to all who reply back. any info is most appreciated.

BACKING OUT THE SCREW WILL LOOSEN THE SPRING THERE FOR IT WILL BE A SOONER SHIFT IFF YOU TIGHTEN THE SCREW/ SPRING IT WILL TAKE MORE TIME AND FORCE TO SHIFT THERE FOR YOU WILL HAVE A LATER SHIFT. FROM EVERYTHING YOU SADI IS SEEMS TO BE SHIFTING WAY TO SOON TIGHTEN IT UP. FACTORY SETTING IS FOR THE .16 MOTOR YOU ARE RUNNING A WAY MORE TORQUER MOTOR AND WILL CAUSE THE CAR TO SHIFT SOONER CAUSE IT IS HITTING THE TORQUE RATING FOR THE SHIFT POINT MUCH FASTER THAN THE .16 WOULD

Here is the weekend report. I re-adjusted the shifting point to 2.5 turns from screwed in all the way. I also verified that the ball/spring were still there. They were. The 2.5 turns out makes the truck much faster on startup now, so I believe that I am finally able to start the truck in 1st gear. But, when I run on a full straight away, when the engine kicks into second gear, the engine totally bogs down at the moment and loses all additional power. Its like when 2nd gear kicks in, the truck will only idle now, and I have no additional throttle available. Does this make sense? Any suggestions? Also, thanks for the info you provided, about , turns in/out, meaning shifting sooner/later. It was good to verify that info. The OS .18 is a much more powerful motor, so I might try adjusting the shift a little bit more. But the 2nd gear engagement engine bogging down has me frustrated. Could it be that my HSN is still set wrong? Too rich perhaps. Or maybe the LSN when 2nd gear kicks in. [&:]

your motor is most likely to lean try riching the motor up a bit to see what is does. bogging out is an indication of starvation from fuel
