NX-76 Break in
I ran the first tank of break in for my nemesis today. I had to bump the idel up pretty good to keep it running but i got it to stay on. My question is how hot should it get? When i first started it, it was about 110. By the end of the tank it slowly crept up to 130. That sound good to everyone?

RE: NX-76 Break in
Could be as high as 180 without issue, in fact some prefer break in temps just abit higher!!

RE: NX-76 Break in
REALY?!?!?! I thought you wanted a low number for break in temps. Also it took forever for the truck to run out of gas. And all the fumes where killer cause teh truck was not moving. ANd to think i have to do this 2 more times... LOL.

RE: NX-76 Break in
uhhh... actually you need to get it up to 200°F to actually do it correctly. the metals all need to expand during break in and thats around 200°. low temps do more damage than good, just keep the break in temps between 200-220°. once broken in try to keep it under 260...

RE: NX-76 Break in
ok well how hot should i get on tanks 4 and 5 when i am driving it around slowly?
|
RE: NX-76 Break in
by 4 to 5 tanks you should be starting to tune the motor so temps will go up you do not want to exceed 260 try to keep it around 220 to 245 and you should be good

RE: NX-76 Break in
ok bottom line... you want to be in the low 200s for several tanks, and low rpms. at that point pull the plug and turn the flywheel... if you still feel squeaky metal pinch its got more breaking in to do. as long as you feel that squeaky/tight feeling with the plug out its not broken in. if you make the motor turn high rpms when its tight, its really hard on the con rod and itll stretch out the crank end and your off to a bad start.... thats what you want to avoid.[:'(]
so take it easy on the motor and dont rev it high, run as rich as possible until you feel the metal pinch go away. keep the temps in the low 200s untill then, once broken in keep it under 260ish... but an occasional 300 wont kill it, but its not good!:) all motors seem to break in at different rates, so checking the pinch with the plug out is the best way to check. |
RE: NX-76 Break in
very well said rev.... You cant go wrong with that info.

RE: NX-76 Break in
Thanks for all the help. The CEN insturctions do not really go into details about break in. They just say idle 3 tanks then drive slow 2 tanks. And on the 6th tank tune. After talking to you all its a lot diff then that. Thanks again for all your help.

RE: NX-76 Break in
I cant get my IDLE break in temps to go below 235 degrees? Now that is being taken by a MIP on board temp guage wrapped around the bottom fin of the engine?

RE: NX-76 Break in
richen the needles some and temps should go down...

RE: NX-76 Break in
the high speed or low speed?

RE: NX-76 Break in
hey Nick, yeah I agree about CEN's instructions for the break in procedure, i just started a post asking about tuning my GST as I have just finished runing it in, but i wish I had have had the above info, because i just did what they say in the instructions, idle 3 tanks and then slowly drive it around. I have no idea what temps is was doing nor did i no about the stuff Revo said about checking for that squeaky sound with the plug out etc. Gee I wish i had known that stuff before I started the run in[:o] i have asked about the tuning side of it in the post i just started, cause after reading the instructions that came with the truck, I'm still unsure and worried about doing the wrong thing.
Thanks to all of you guys out there that help newbies like me out, it is really really appreciated :) |

RE: NX-76 Break in
Will installing the ofna check valve affect the factory needle settings? So would I need to richen both the high speed and low speed needles?
