GST check up
1 Attachment(s)
I havent ran my GST in a while so I tried to start it up the other day and it did right away. But Im still having the problem when I touch the brake to much it shuts off the engine right away. I will get pics in a little while to see if you guys can see whats wrong. I finally got a new camera so it works great! I didnt want to take it outside either because there is just a ton of snow out side right now and the streets are not cleared. As you can see in the pics there is something horribly wrong. ITS NOT DIRTY!!!! I have not yet to see its full potential yet. Once this engine is right I cant wait to unleash it. Im planning on getting some things from Tower, like a temp gun 20-30 bucks. Any sugestions?

RE: GST check up
Apply the brakes and look into the carb, if the carb is fully closing then that is your problem. There should be a 1mm to 2mm opening when the brakes are fully applied. The other thing that will cause this is a broken clutch spring or clutch shoes that melted to the clutch bell.
|
RE: GST check up
Alright, I will take off the clutch bell and look at it later. I believe that when I push on the brakes that there is a gap in the carb. But I have to do homework now:( I really hope its not the clutch springs.

RE: GST check up
It's hard to tell from the pics, but it looks like the springs are OK.

That's what we are for, to all help each other out. |
RE: GST check up
I just got home from snowboarding. Have to do a bit of homework and i will go check the truck again.
|
RE: GST check up
So I checked the shoes and all of them have the same tension, very tight. What else could be the problem? Because the carb is open enough on idle, especially when i apply the brakes.
|
RE: GST check up
Another possibility is that since the truck had been sitting for a while, as you stated, the carb is possible gummed up with old fuel or contaminants. The low speed needle might not be functioning properly. You could try cleaning out the carb. Just make sure you write down how many turns all of your needs we set at from all the way screwed in.

RE: GST check up
I was thinking that it could be the LSN. But this was happening before I put it away. But I believe that I have the settings right. Maybe not, it really isnt the greatest weather for tuning.[:@]
|
RE: GST check up
Hey Darkfire have you done the OFNA Checkvalve mod?? If so you may still need some tuning..
|
RE: GST check up
The only other thing it could be is the engine is loading up. I would try the Checkvalve as Dogman stated. This will take care of the engine loading up.
|
RE: GST check up
for the check valve mod you make the flow of the filter so that its moving from teh exaust to the tank like this
exaust-->--[filter flow -->]-->--Tank |
RE: GST check up
Yeah, I have the OFNA valve. The thing is though I didnt fully tune it before I put it away. I think I have to lean it out more. Thats turning the HSN in. Right?

Yes Sir, Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosey. So turning to the right will Tighten or close the Needle. Get that baby tuned properly and you will be in GST Hog Heaven!! |
RE: GST check up
Isnt it a bad idea trying to tune it in the cold? Or do I just need for it to get up to temp?
