Default Ordered my Hawk Pro Today

and i am pumped. Was only able to get the heli kit, pitch gauge and starting wand. I already have a gy240 and the engine/electronics will be ordered after my LM Corona sells on ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...8599&rd=1&rd=1

I am thinking os 37 and futaba standered digitals all around.
I have an optic 6 wich should get the job done. I have got to say that this CP thing is a whole different ballpark. I have lots of reading to do. I am actualy counting on the CP to be more stable than my FP corona. I can do just about everything accept airobatics on my FP.
Man i can't wait!!!!

You will find a BIG positive difference between the Corona and the Hawk Pro. Take your time to build it right and set it up properly and with the OS37H it will take you a long way.

As for power etc. I found the OS37 a bit more user friendly to adjust then the Toki 40 because the T40's needles (idle and main) use a much finer thread then what i have been used to with OS and YS. So where the OS adjusts on the main with the needle somewhere between 1 & 1.5 with the idle needle at factory or a hair richer, I found the T40 to be between 4.25 and 5.75 on the main with the idle screw out a bit from even with the case.

So though the OS 37 is more "user friendly" to set up, the T40 is more powerful and surprisingly more fuel efficient.

This is why for a newbie I would suggest that he get the OS37 and for the more experienced flyer (who has experience tuning heli engines and wants more power) I recommend the T40.

There is a good thread by SteveH in the Century forum on Run Ryder on setting the throttle and pitch curves on a Hawk Pro - you would be well served by reading it.

Thanks syclic, i am wondering how well airplane tuning carries over to heli engine tunning. I have become quite the tuner of the fixed wing engines since i have been fitling with them for 5 some odd years. On the other hand, it might be easier to not have to worry about engine tunnning when dealling with a 50 inch rotor LOL.

Anyway, I have read through just about everything on pitch/throttle curves and i think i am getting a grasp on it. The only thing i have not found is how to spool up the heli. This is probaley a simple answer but the would going from throttle hold to idle up 1 or 2 cause a large amount of wear on the clutch from spinning up that fast? After viewing my radio's instrution manuel their is no appearent way to spool it uip

Assembling my hawk pro now. Manual really is not worth much. Doesn't have any real info on setting the thing up if it is out of tune. Helimax kenetic 50 manual (same helicopter in 50 size I think) is better and has alot more info. Down load from tower site.

Yes, the manual for the Hawk Sport is a much better manual then the current one now provided with the Hawk Pro. I recommend the Sport manual to those setting up the Pro.

I also refer people to Steve H's post on the Century RR Forum on Set-up. Very good.

syclic, is there a way to download the entire manuel off the century website. It seems i can only download it in sections which is anoying because you then end up with 40 pdf files.

I also ordered a new reciever pack today. The one that came in the flight pack was pretty small mah. I think it was 1000. That is not a problem for non digitals but from what i have herd if you run digitals it is better to run over 2000. I baught digital servos for every control surface so i figure i would hook my self up with a NIMH 2500 mah 4 cell pack from cheapbatterypacks.com

Fired up the OS 37 today. As I expected it ran great. Had to lean about 1/2 turn from the 1 1/2 setting and it is still a little rich like I want to begin. Alittle leaning on the low speed and it is idling pretty nice with good transition. Hawk blades tracked perfectly right from the start. Messing with the gyro, think I got it pretty close now. Breezy out righty now but might put her in the first hover this evening.

Got the hawk off the ground last evening. Hovered probably 10 minutes with a bunch of adjustments thrown in. Having trouble getting the gyro to stop wagging the tail. All right with the HH shut off. Futaba 240. Didn't do any forward flight until I get the tail tamed alittle better.

Everything is going great, pretty much everything is done. I ordered a 9252 for the collective as it seems to be the tightest of all the controls. That should really give me collective power. My first flight will be this weekend!

First of all I'm 58 years old big and small airplane pilot. It's not as easey to learn as it used to be. Have real flight 3.5 and after alot of fooling around with the computer, can fly the heli's pretty good on it. Got my Hawk Pro 10 days ago. Hovered it the first time last Saturday. Had some radio interferrence problems but got them solved. Hawk is so easy to fly that I,m aready flying it in high speed forward flight. Couldn't be more pleased with the Helicopter and the OS .37!!!! Maybe auto's next week and inverted the following!

WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWO

This thing is awesome . Got to put a tank of gas through it while hovering. Performed beautifly. Was sent back do to interference problems. Antenna in the stock routed config is just not cutting it. We did a few tests and when the antena was out it performed great. I am going back out tommorow. Never have i seen a rc heli fly in a dead steady hover when i was at the sticks. Just amazing

BTW, the gy240/s3151 digital combo held the tail perfectly.

Cambo, get yourself some of the spiral cable wrap, it comes in small sizes , and bind all those wires up, will help protect them in case of a mishap !!
