Default Article needed, Dave Gierke Northern Eagle

Does anyone know what magazine this was published in so I might search my piles?
Thanks,
Chris...

This model looks like it could have control line stunt roots! Very Cool! [sm=49_49.gif]

I'd like to see one in the air. Looks aggressive!

Dave was a favorite of mine when I was a small boy tagging along behind my Dad in the 60's. Navy Nats and all of that. These were taken at the '67 Nats at Los Al, CL Stunt event. Here is a time before even Lanier ARF's!

Yep, Dave was a well known C/L stunt flyer in the 60's and 70's, his stunt models looked like that too, remember the Novi?

Hi Evan,
Yes. The pictures there are of Dave with his Novi III with which he placed at the nationals, and his All American Eagle that he brought along to display. He ended up selling it to a local guy and it resurfaced about 5 years ago. A friend of mine has it now, a very interesting design with throttle, brakes and super detailing like all of dave's ships.

Yes,
Lovely ship, and Flying Models Magazine are still selling the plans for this design.
I think it's called a copyright!

I have both these drawings, magazine size, and have always hankered after the Northern Eagle as a build. Novi would convert to a different looking R/C as well...just musing, you understand, I have done similar to USA-1, and have both a C/L and an R/C version of the thing...one wonders whether one should...

You did a USA-1 R/C? Did you build the wing as an I-beam?

Hey Dean,

Thanks for the info on the plans availability.
I never asked for the plans in this thread, if you would read it, only the article.
I have the magazine and I'll buy the frickin' plans from Carstens. Or I'll enlarge the plans from the magazine, which is perfectly legal.

I think in the mid to late 70s, he was flying RC with Hal DeBolt. I remember seeing him at a contest and his wife shared our canopy.

Dave was also an active R/C pylon racer and very knowledgable engine man besides being a world class C/L Stunt flyer. As you can tell, he was a phenominally talented builder who would routinely produce true works of art.
