- There is the ARF culture, less builders, more fliers. There is also this much you can say about an ARF, the colours and size of the box, how it went together, how it flew. Magazines like RCM survived on 'For what it's worth" kind of features, plan features, etc. When the audience for that disappears, the magazine disappears.

- Then of course there is the internet too! We come here, we have an interactive medium, more fun than reading your magazine and only listening to others. Because of websites, the necessity for advertisements disappeared, or the income from it must have dropped. In their glory days, Tower Hobbies had pages and pages in RCM

I loved RCM, love the internet too

About the only Mag with real Articales is the UK mag RCM&E you still get a good free plan sometimes
and it is not just ''ARF Review'' and other Electric foam rubish.

We did have a very good mag here down-under ''Airbourne'' but that has gone down the ARF road as well but they still have some plans for sale.

Yes they took the Girls away too.........Political Correctness Sux

I agree! RCM&E is hard to beat, but expensive subscription here in the US (though I happily pay it every year). Also excellent here in the US is Flying Models, not a thick mag, but good articles.

My wife always teased me about the RCM covers. I think I still have my library of those from about 1983 to 1991 or so...

It was around 11-12 years ago when the current AMA magazine, Model Aviation, told all of its editors that they had to take a semimonthly assignment, in favor of "what the readership wants.......". I remember it well since I was an NSRCA VP in District 3 at the time, and we had alot of NSRCA Board discussion on that subject. It meant that our beloved Pattern column space was being cut in half. Worse than even that was the fact that only one independent article on Pattern was to be printed annually.....

Many of us wrote letters to MA, all to no avail. I know that Ron Van Putte continued for many months (years) to try and get some compromise position on all of that from MA. Again to no avail.

I agree, the current main rags in the US, MAN and MA, are indeed rubish. I hear FM has some good Pattern stuff but lacks readership. Afterall Dave Lockhart took over from Dean Pappas a few years ago so the content on Pattern matters has continued to be up to date. We probably should drop MA and MAN and support FM

Nice eye candy, but definitely on the ragged edge of taste. What I liked about the RCM covers is that they were, almost without exception, tasteful but also great eye candy, kind of like WWII Era pinups.
