Start the first paragraph and click on the insert image icon
The cursor positions itself at the right lower corner of the last pic or you can position it here and hit enter
Now you can start another paragraph and/or enter another pic.
The cursor again appears at the lower right corner after uploading the image.
Hit enter and start another paragraph.
What browser are you using?

Hopefully they make the pics visible while not signed in again. I always sent everyone to RCU to look at the pics from events, but if they can't see it by just looking at the site (without signing in), then there's no incentive to do it. So far though the 'new' site is looking pretty good.

Image upload and site test
Mike,
I'm assuming this is a catch all test thread for the new site so I'll try things out here if you don't mind.
New paragraph in the "advanced" (non default) post editor. I just saw a yellow "post-it" sign come up telling me my post was "auto saved". That might be helpful and interesting to find out about its functionality.
Image upload next.
Carriage return here and the next line.
Insert image here:
Nice.
Attachment Management here rather than "image insert". Good, it all seems to work for me. A little more sophisticated (and presumably more flexible) than the old tools so we'll see how it goes.
I have yet to look into adding comments to images as one can on RCG. I also have yet to try the image sorting options as provided for thumbnail attached images.
David
Edit: Trying out post editing. It seems to be available and work as it did previously. JPG Image compression is very high as might be expected but I believe that was the case on the old site too. The allotted space for clearer (less compressed) JPG attachements is probably lower than on RCG which causes the images to be "blurry" and for the colours to bleed even when the image is blown up to "full resolution" as dictated by the new site's image and attachment rules. Given the volume of images uploaded to a site with the traffic RCU has, it is not surprising that the compression is very high. It would be nice to have a less lossy image at full scale however. In all likelihood, something that can be "dialed in" by code parameters to RCU staff if so chosen.
Edit 2: The "ID" given to my attached image is ~1.9M... not a small volume of images on a web site...

I agree. I'm not seeing a way to add image comments either and the images are indeed very lossy at "full res".
One feature which I liked about RCU that I miss on RCG and apparently here on the new RCU is the ability to see who's reading the thread (or at least was at some point in the recent past). Names of users were listed at the top of the thread which allowed one to address specific users in an exchange if one knew there "might" be reading and/or posting on the thread. I now see no such feature on RCU nor have I been able to see a way on RCG. The latter I believe provides a list of users online at the forum level but not at the thread level.
Is that accurate or am I missing something?

The "paper clip" feature on a thread at the forum level doesn't seem to work. The images contained in a thread which should be shown appear as broken icons rather than the images...

David,
I see the images displayed as links on the "paper clip" feature. It looks like you must click on each one to see the image and cannot scroll through them like RCG. So far I don't find the new RCU edit function to be very great compared to the editor used by RCG. I guess time will tell. I don't think I'll try to use RCU for a major thread until I'm sure the editor works well and it has been running for a few months and seems stable. Stability of the RCU system in the past has not been very good.
Looks like the active users only show at the root of the given forum.
I've noticed today that sometimes the editor gets stuck and the "Save" button stops working. It is a pain because you must exit to get it started.

The other thing I had to do was turn off automatic subscriptions. By default it subscribes you to a thread if you post on it and you get an email every time someone posts on the thread.
I also wish the editor would default to allowing CRs to make paragraphs.
