Sun Fli IV - build
Ok, it's done so not much of a build. Pretty easy build anyway[8D] This is a Joe Bridi
design from 1968 and is of course similar to his better known Kaos series. Legend has it Bridi
won more meets back then with the Sun Fli series than he did with the Kaos series.
This is the 5th Sun Fli IV I have built in the past 25 years, the first was in the
early 80's and served as my low wing trainer. This one is for VRCS class 3
pattern, uses an OS 60FP and JR PCM radio. I like the 60FP for these older models
that originally used K&B .61's- nothing against the K&B but the OS is 100% reliable.
Over the years I have used anything from OS & ST 46's to an OS 61SF- the FP60 is
perfect. Covering is Ultracote.
Sheldons was clearing their remaining stock of Bridi kits on eB*y, picked up one more just
to stash away for the future. As you can see, we are a ways from flying weather here in the NE,
but these all fly good with no bad habits. As soon as I complete my Falcon 56 for VRCS I need to finish a Dirty Birdy for SPA type events!
I apologize for the photo quality, I don't think my camera liked all the glare.

RE: Sun Fli IV - build
The entire model is covered in red Ultracote. I make bond paper templates for the white trim, and cutout the exact design I want. Spray the area where the trim will be with windex which will allow you to "float" the trim in place. I use a piece of 3/32" balsa as a squeegee to get the trim down tight with no bubbles, then go over with my iron set to a medium temperature. Ultrastripe allows you to put the stripes down and then also seal with an iron.
The Ultracote white covers very well- no red shows through.

I'm in the middle of a Sun Fli III build. I'll try to post pics later. I'm going to use an OS 91FS in mine and will use 2 servo's in the wing. I'm going to try a couple of Senior Pattern contests with mine. Low Rider's Sun Fli IV looks terrific.

RE: Sun Fli IV - build
I have a Sun Fli V kit tha I bought from Joe before he retired. I will build it some day, but seeing your pictures makes me more excited. Your plane looks great! Definitely give us a flight update.
I think this plane would be fun on floats or skis.

BTerry, you CAN NOT put skis or floats on a Bridi pattern plane!!! We'll revoke your membership in the AMA if you do!! You gotta stop this line of thought ASAP, or next thing you know, you'll be doing candy drops with it too. Obviously, I'm kidding,....but do build this plane and have fun with it. The Bridi designs are such wonderful fliers. Regards,...WarpedWing.

RE: Sun Fli IV - build
Wow--just found this old thread, thought I'd toss in a couple pics of my Sun Fli 4-20, about 1990 vintage and still flying today. Probably my all time favorite model, built and trimmed exactly as the box showed it to be (we added Snoopy of course!)
