BPA/SPA plane "vote"
Hi All,
After this weekends contest, it got me thinking. I was flying a Calypso, Joe had a Phoenix 8, Blake was flying Don's Phoenix 10 and Ryan was flying a Baccara. These are basically the planes that we "had" at the time.
So what is YOUR favorite BPA/SPA airplane? It doesn't have to be one in production, just your personal favorite. After watching the flights on Joe's Phoenix 8, that looked really nice in the air. I liked the lines of Rich's Deception. And they're SPA legal too. Best of both worlds.
What's your favorite?
Mine's the Blue Angel in case anyone didn't know

I had two Deceptions back in the 1980s and I am building one from plans this winter. My plan is to use an OS61FX with an Ultrathrust muffler and retracts. I have liked the way the 61FX performs on my Cutlass and the longer tail moment of the Deception should lessen the need for the tail weight I've had to add to the Cutlass. This combo will be SPA legal (with the gear down and locked) and, if I can keep the weight down, should give performance comparable to what I had with the original Deceptions powered variously by an ST X60 and Webra Speeds when the wheels are up. From what I have seen on this forum there should be at least three Deceptions on the circuit next season! Starting to seem like the old days!

I had two planes "back in the day" that will always be my favorite SPA types
1. Ron Chidgey's Tiger Tail. The original one flown in 1971-2 with Webra 61BH.
2. Norm Page's Mach 1. I had a midwest kit was orange and black with Webra 61BH. That plane hauled A__ and looked like a flying Jack-O-Lantern.
Maybe also Steve Helm's Bootlegger.
BPA type was the Cursor and Boxer 60's. Flew great with a Hanno or YS61LS.
Working on a new Tiger Tail now, Mach 1 is next and I still have my Cursor/Hanno flying.
Peace

I like too many of them to list actually. But my favorite right now is the Aurora.

#1 Curare
#2 EU1-A
#3 UFO
Of course had to include the UFO cause I'm flying 2 of them, but in the air they are both beautiful. In reality there are mucho planes from the pre-turnaround era that I love.

Well, right now, it's my UFO. But, the plane I really want to build next is Mr. Pappas' Maya. I really love the lines of his design.

I have one fuselage and a completely framed set of feathers sitting in a safe place in the basement.
With a 12-12 prop and a YS 61 LS it oughtta scat. Maybe I need a Jett 90RE ... Hmmm.
regards to All,
Dean

The Nutcracker and the Intruder were both designed by Jim Kirkland. He designed the Nutcracker before the Intruder. I would guess that the Intruder is probably a derivitive of the Nutcracker.j

I think I will add my favorite, most of them are SPA planes:
1. KAOS- one of the best all around planes ever!
2.Dirty Birdy- offspring of the Kaos
3. Banshee- Designed by some local guys in my area
4. Eyeball-same reason as the banshee
5. Cutlass- same reason as the banshee
6. King Altair- really nice looking Big bird
7.Taurus- first modern pattern plane
8. Daddy Rabbit- utmost simplicity and outstanding performance
9. Curare- It looks cool, flies good
10. MK Aurora- Interesting airplane, and even more interesting to build if you don't read Japanese, but great flying airplane

Hey David,
I think my dad has some of the original plans from Jim Kirland of the Nutcracker. He and my dad were good friends. I'll take a look to see what he has.
