Classic Pattern contest Tangerine Jamboree
Well here it is. My club RCACF has asked me to take on the duties of CD for the Tangerine Pattern contest this year. The new Tangerine Pattern contest to be held in November, the weekend before Thanksgiving. It will be a three day event to include Classic Pattern and AMA/FAI.
The tentative date is November 19, 20, 21, 2010.
Included in the Classic Pattern is SPA for those desiring to fly SPA rules and Classic Pattern which is old time pattern. I like to refer to this as Ballistic Pattern ala the style of Gary Courtney. That is retracts, tuned pipes, YS engines, pumped engines most anything goes. No one will be turned away due to an illegal airplane.
The tentaive schedule is as follows:
Friday, begin with SPA and Ballistic pattern and finish on Saturday morning.
Saturday morning start withe AMA/ FAI and complete on Sunday.
I would like feedback as to any ideas to improve. Please no negative comments. I need all the help I can get. More to come later. Please send your feedback as I intend to apply for the sanction soon depending on feedback. And again, please no negative feedbacks. By negative feedback, it is meant to mean no derogatory remarks, comments, etc.

Guys:
At the Tangerine contest electrics will be allowed for all the classes. And by the way, I ailed to mention the contest is at the Tangerine field in Apopka, Florida.
Therefore, you can fly electrics in SPA. The exception is they will not qualify for SPA points.
Now Classic Pattern electrics will be llowed.

We had this arrangement two years ago and it was a blast. You can imagine two planes flying side by side, one being a thundering 4 stroke and a large airframe, and the other a sleek airframe with screaming 2 cycle on a pipe; what a difference.
Come on down, you'll love it.

Here's a few pics from 2 years ago... I don't think anyone left without have a great time. After all, when can you heckle a top pilot (Chip Hyde in this case) DURING his flight (Classic Pattern)...

Great pictures Jas. I had totally forgotten about those. I also cannot forget Chip's break right turn just before landing.
We can have the same kind of fun this year.
Thanks again,

Hey Orlando - How many rounds would be flown in SPA? I know the "stock" answer of "it depends on the number of entrants", but I'd be reluctant to drive five hundred miles to fly two or three rounds. (Of course it may be the best idea to fly both SPA and AMA to get some stick time? Does one entry fee take care of the weekend?)
Thanks! And, I hope you are doing well.

Hi Mike:
The original posting was to get feedback for attendance to the contest.
But as preliminary answerrs to your question, the minimum number of rounds would be six (weather permitting) if more could be done so be it. Remember it is not only SPA, but BPA and AMA/FAI.
The tentatoive schedule is as follows: Friday, begin with SPA and Ballistic pattern and finish on Saturday morning.
Saturday morning start withe AMA/ FAI and complete on Sunday. This should give us a minimum of six rounds. It also depends on the contestants to make sure they are on cue when their turn is up. I am presently considering a change to the schedule but have to figure out if it is worth the change. If you have any ides, please present them.
Two years ago we had approximately 41 pilots and six rounds were flown. However, I believe Masters or FAI did not fly the full six rounds. But again we only had two days whereas now there are thre days.
So make the 5-7 hour trip and have fun.

I would be inclined to put it on my schedule if I get to fly enough.

Mike,
Since the SPA/CPA sequences take less time overall, I'd be willing to bet an easy 4 rounds on Friday alone. Then with a full day Saturday, 2 more SPA/CPA rounds shouldn't be a problem.
