RE: EU1 A Production Pictures
That was the whole idea behind having Don make a mold of my EU1-A fuselage was to have them available for people who were tired of the delays. You did notice as soon as it was known it would be available that Dan Chimed in and said he was starting his again. I think if I were going to be in business that it would be better to anounce that a kit was available now instead of saying it is on the way in the near future.

Oh my! That's the airplane that started my aerobatic obsession 35+ years ago. I can't remember who, but someone showed up at the Chula Vista, CA Border Classic pattern contest with an EU-1 and I was in love. I went through many a Kaos, Super Kaos, Dirty Birdy, Deception, and others before I could finally muster up the cash for an EU-1A, Rossi .60 RE and pipe + retracts.. What an amazing rolling aircraft that was. Felt like cheating in the 3 rolls.

These are the pictures of the Carolina Custom Aircraft EU1 A kit. The Kit contains an epoxy primed in the mold fiberglass fuselage, belly pan and tuned pipe tunnel seperator, foam wing/stab cores as well as an updated instruction book. The kit is now in production and going smoothly. If anyone has any questions concerning the kit, please email me at [email protected] and I will be happy to answer them. I'd like to thank all of my supporters here on RCU for their patience.

Sweet!!! So let me understand this ,,, There are two different folks producing their own versions of the EU-1A? What are the prices from both entities?

Personally I like the white gel-cote. No offense intended.

I also prefer epoxy gel-coats, saves on paint prep.
e-mail for details.

That is very cool Paul and Don!
looks like Don might have laid up a Speeda with gel coat in the mold. I've never worked with gel coat fuses. I assume this requires less work on the paint prep (mainly finishing the seam area) as one can spray it directly with paint with no need to prime - correct?
David.

David,
The CCA EU1 A and all of our kits come pre primed in the mold with PPG epoxy primer. There is no seam line to fill on CCA kits as they come with that work already done. On our fiberglass kits all you do is lightly sand the fuselage to prep it for paint. Since it is epoxy primer you can use any type paint you wish.

A true Gel Coat is a polyester coating, normally sprayed with a Dump Gun after mixing in the catalyst. Anytime you hear the term gel coat, you should be thinking polyester but we seem to use it also when referring to epoxy based products which makes things confusing.
For example Tooling Gel Coat is the polyester equivalent of an epoxy surface coat both intended to be used to make the surface of a mold, but both completely different in their properties.
Don can speak on this further.

RE: EU1 A Production Pictures
Very informative fellas. Thanks for educating me. It does sound like working with pre-primed fuses makes for a faster finish. I suppose the downside is that rigging might be a little trickier since one can't see through the fuse. Then again, I've only worked with pretty old glass fuses and they've always been laid up with epoxy. Although I know Atlanta's were laid up in polyester (the green bullets), I'm glad I've never had to work with that. I'm pretty sensitive to solvents and poly strikes me as a real headache catalyst.
Well, maybe it's time I try a mold primer coated fuse sometime in the near future.

I received my Atlanta kit from Don within about 10 days. Two days from ordering to notify my it had shipped and another 7 or 8 days to ship. I think the shipping took so long because it was in route during a holiday weekend.
