SUMMIT II KIT WANTED

Hello to all, I am new to this forum but used to compete in pattern in the late 70's and 80's. I have been heavy into aviation over the two decades although not flying models. Now I'm getting the bug again and would love to build some of the old planes I used to have as well as some I never was able to get to. I am hoping that someone on here can direct me to a kit of the Summit II as I had one and loved it. If someone has any idea if my old one still is out there and who owns it I would die to get it back. It was White with Black and fading shades of gray sunburst on the wings and stab. Also, as with all my planes, the vertical tail had lightning bolts painted on it. I know its a dream, but you never know?

Anyway, If you have a lead on a kit or a built plane, please let me know.

Thanks,

Kirk Wicker

Hey Kirk,
Don't have a kit of the Summit II - Good luck, hope you find one. Who kitted the 'II'? There are a few guys who have been acquiring the molds for classic pattern designs and are either kitting new kits or planning to. You might get lucky with one of them.
If memory serves, I saw you fly a demo in your Pitts Special (black and green, maybe) at the Aeroguidance Society contest back in the '80s. I think it was shortly after you 'temporarily' left competitive pattern flying.
Welcome back ;)

Yes that was me flying the Pitts S-1 many years ago. I have had a few cool planes since then, a clipped wing T-craft, A CAP-21, The first Certificated Extra 200, A Pitts S1-T, A 450 Stearman that I used for WingWlking at airshows, and my J-3 Cub which is currently under restoration. (Due to be done April) Needless to say models taught me well.

I have been talking with Ivan trying to locate a kit, Plane, or molds for the Summit II but as of yet no luck. I will keep looking though....

Attached is a Picture of my Cap-21. See if you can identify which well known pattern flier from the Classic era influinced the paint scheme?

So what are the differences in the Summit II and Summit III??

I know AztecAir was kitting the Summit III but I believe they have temporarily ceased production and am not too sure when they will be back..

You may try dropping Rusty Dose an e-mail...I **thought** he may have had a Summit v1 kit but not sure about the v2

I hope someone can help you out..

P.S. I'm an airshow nut/fan!!

If I remember correctly, and at my age thats a long shot, the Summit III was a larger stretched version meant for turnaround pattern. It was a taildragger also as I remember but then again...

I love Airshows as well and plan on performing for a few years yet to come.

Hey Kirk,

Just out of curiosity, did you ever fly any of the pattern contests that were held at TRC in Virginia Beach back it the day? The reason I ask, I was at a LHS about a month or so back and the shop owner and I were watching some old VHS viedo's that someone took at some of the events. I could sware I saw a black, gray and white trike gear Summit in one of them.

Yes, I flew there many times over the years with Steve Stricker, Tom Kirk, Tom Fitzinger, Herbie and Doogie Consolvo, and many others. Always loved that place. Would love to see if a copy of the video could be had if at all possible? Would you be able to check on that for me at some point... You'd be my neatest buddy!

RE: SUMMIT II KIT WANTED

Kirk,

Now you've mentioned a few names I know, but unfortunately some of the gentlemen I've never had the opertunity to meet. You mentioned Doogie Consolvo. I've only met him once, but I've never had the privaledge to see him fly. I have heard many stories about his incredible flying abilities from a good friend of mine named Burnley Miller. Do you remember him? He flew Troublemakers, EU1A's, Banshee and atlanta's among others. I've known Burnley for over 30 years. Burnley used to be a member of TRC but stopped flying pattern competition quite a long time ago and left the hobby for a while. We used to work together and he is the person responsible for getting me into flying R/C about ten years ago. He is also a member of the same R/C club that I am and I still see him all the time. I've always known he used to fly pattern, but I could never get him interested in flying it again until I let him fly a Dick Hanson Dalotel that I bought early last year and that hooked him. We are also both on Dan's waiting list for an EU1A.

I will see what I can do about getting my hands on those old VHS tapes. I know somebody who works for WAVY TV down here who may be able to make copies of them and possibly burn them onto a CD or DVD. Let me look into it and I will let you know.

Yes I do know the name Burnley Miller but for the life of me I cant put a face with the name. I more than likely would remember his planes if I saw a picture and then all the memories would come flooding back...good and bad, oh my! We had some good times down there with lots of adventures and parties that should have involved the authorities. I wonder sometimes what ever happened to Doogie and Herby and if they were still around?

I know where Steve Stricker is as well as Tom Kirk. Tom Fitzinger was flying full scale stuff last I heard but haven't run into him at any airports as of yet. At some point we will have to get together and do some flying. Getting my shop ready to make some dust but should have something to fly before to long.

On another note, here is a link to the last flight of my CAP-21 that should show the complete paint scheme. Some of the guys on here should be able to tell who's pattern plane influenced the paint job on the CAP-21. (I miss that plane) ENJOY!!!!

Let me know about the video, I would be more than happy to take care of the VHS to DVD cost.

Thanks,

Kirk Wicker

Nice job on the emergency landing Kirk. Looks like you sheared the crank.. Doesn't look like the change in CG affected it too much though..

Funny how the Cap-21 looks like such a graceful and gentle airplane and it wasn't too long ago it was the highest performance machine out there.

RE: SUMMIT II KIT WANTED

Hi Doug,

Nice to here from you after so many years and thank you for the kind words about the landing. Yes the Cap-21 as well as the whole series are fantastically smooth planes and yet you can take them to BIZARRE mode with a flick of the wrist. The Cap-21, although well out dated by todays standards, was in its day at the top of the heap. I was going to purchase a CAP-231EX but found out we were having our first child and backed off the purchase. Funny how the model Caps (Great Planes) were so snappy but the full size was a puusycat.

I had this picture of a Tipo in the old photo album. Color scheme sounded familiar. Your Summit II color scheme looked like this?

Cheers,
Don
