The CPA (Classic Pattern Association) and E-power
Is e-power allowed and encouraged in the CPA?
|
RE: The CPA (Classic Pattern Association) and E-power
Paul,
I believe the answer to the former is yes. The CPA is unencumbered by the types of rules that have been in effect, on and off, in the SPA. As far as encouraged, I don't know but I'd say the CPA doesn't care one way or another - they just want you to be there and fly classic pattern no matter what power plant. I do believe there are some rules that were put into effect regarding the prop size. Perhaps Scott can clarify. What are your thoughts and concerns with e-power? David. |
RE: The CPA (Classic Pattern Association) and E-power
In the 1976 rule book that was one of the changes... see link http://www.classicpatternassociation.../1976-1977.pdf so yes e-planes are allowed... will there be many, most likely not.. I'm a 99% e-plane person and I have made a few glow planes for CPA....
Hope this helps.... #2 |

Paul,
Has this helped ? scott |
RE: The CPA (Classic Pattern Association) and E-power
What's the difference between CPA and SPA? Do either use the turn around pattern? Wasn't the turn around pattern used in the 80's?
|
RE: The CPA (Classic Pattern Association) and E-power
Both fly non turn around pattern, pre 1983/84 ?
Retractable landing gear, flaps etc. are not legal in SPA, and no tuned pipes. SPA has an aircraft cutoff of Jan 1, 1976 and CPA cutoff ?? |
RE: The CPA (Classic Pattern Association) and E-power
Here is some info...
Senior Pattern Association - SPA - No planes past 1975, December 31,1975 cutoff.. No Pipes / No Retracts. No injected engines (YS), max displacement 91 - 4 stroke, electric allowed with a set battery and watt output. The patterns are made from maneuvers from the era, and flown one maneuver at a time. To fly except novice you must be a member. Here is the website - http://www.seniorpattern.com/ Classic Pattern Association - CPA- Planes to MID 1990 - Pipes /retracts allowed. Injected engine allowed, max displacement 120 - 4 stroke, electric allowed as by the 1976 rule book. Patterns are flown as printed in the rule book. also flown as pre-turn around. You do not have to be a member to compete. see the mission statement at the CPA website - www.classicpatternassociation.com |

As I recall, events also do not have to be "competition pattern" to be endorsed or sanctioned by CPA. To join in on the flying fun, airplanes are not required to be "classic pattern" at the lower eschelons.
(But the aim is to encourage the flying and friendly competition of classic pattern ships.) If Scott (CPA) could confirm this... |

RE: The CPA (Classic Pattern Association) and E-power
Brian,
Correct.... 1. A CPA event can be a gathering as in CA on May 21st 2011 and does not need to be a formal contest. 2. In the novice class pretty much all planes are welcome with basic guidlines of 72" ish wing span. Look at the old BPA threads for the basic guidlines.. more of this will be worked on. 3. We help and encourage those who want to learn how to set up a plane , fly and have a diffrrent format to compete. |

RE: The CPA (Classic Pattern Association) and E-power
1991 was the last of the pre turn around in the rule books that I can see .
Correction......... I made a mistake as the mission statement stated mid 1990's not 1996 as I posted in a prior post.... So Mid 1990 planes allowed. |
RE: The CPA (Classic Pattern Association) and E-power
I think you lost the essence of what Classic Pattern is to most (My Opinion)
SPA is closer in that aspect (My Opinion) I learned a lot about the CPA today. |
RE: The CPA (Classic Pattern Association) and E-power
I believe the "cutoff" date of what is considered a classic pattern model by this forums standards is 1996.
As an example, when did Chip Hyde design the Dr. Jeckyll? David. |
RE: The CPA (Classic Pattern Association) and E-power
Pre turn around went to the 1990-1991 per the AMA rule book allowing pipes and retracts and includes many oher features that SPA does not. As always people do have opinions and Paul as a CPA memeber you would have know most of this information from the CPA website.
Well time to get a flight plan filed... scott |
RE: The CPA (Classic Pattern Association) and E-power
Again as I stated I made a mistake with the 1996 for planes , the mission statement has mid 1990s...
Have a good day.. wheels up |
RE: The CPA (Classic Pattern Association) and E-power
Scott,
isn't mid '90's and 1996 just about the same thing? If pre-turn around went to 1991 and that is to be considered the goal post, shouldn't the CPA model cutoff be closer to that date? Early 90's? Not that I'm concerned either way - either date is fine by me. David. |

I take that as a Personal Attack, Bad Move ! This is the second time Brian! You got to get off this! “My hope still is that this can be fixed.” There is nothing to fix here! The thread at least for me is about clarification and information! You can’t rewrite history! There is a big difference in opinions and assumptions! We all have Opinions Brian and that’s fine, and you have many from what I read! but for you to make assumptions of what you think you know or what your being told is over the Top, especially when it comes to me! I’m not a Front man; I don’t need or want as you put it “the reigns” I see you continue with another post. I will not reply to you any further because this within the thread only degrades the information here. |
RE: The CPA (Classic Pattern Association) and E-power
I thought Classic Pattern was pre-1980?

NOW!! I take that as a Personal Attack, Bad Move ! You are going on the attack against the CPA when it is trying to help your cause, as you said you were a member. But you won't acknowledge any of that. You put up a decent straw man fallacy so you don't address the true points made in your favor. What other reason could there be? I am a CPA member as well... I am passionate for your cause. You cannot see this in my posts? This is why I say what I do. My hope still is that this can be fixed. Brian |
RE: The CPA (Classic Pattern Association) and E-power
I thought it was around 1990 that the turnaround type Pattern started, and I was right! So to me the models designed for non-turnaround flying are all cool. Unless you don't have one yet, and you want to fly a little later ship. At least that's what I figured for starters. Remember we are trying to get people to want to do this, not keep them away.
Promotion of this type event will require cool negotiation and inclusiveness to pull in and maintain a pool of participants. Chris... |
