How many squares does a P8 have?

BTW, is there such a thing as a plan for the P7 & P8?

David.
Hi David

I entered all the dimensions into AutoCad and it has 765.0938 Sq.In.

Yes, I have the P8 Plan that Paul Papas sent me. Next week I will go to the print shop and scan it and make a PDF of it.

Devin

Looks great. I like the struts and gear doors. Do you have a paint scheme picked out yet? What did you do to connect the stearable nose gear?

Don

Guys these planes are incredible!! The phoenix 8 is a great plane I'm only 22 but I love this era in pattern we actually have 4 of the phoenix 8s! I guess it helps my father worked at aero composites the original producer of the 8! It's an amazing flying plane! If you have any questions my father knows this plane like the back of his hand and would answer any question or problem you have! Keep up the fantastic work!!!

More Pictures, back to building. Thought I'd install the engine and check out if the header fits. Well, it looks like I should have picked the Med not the standard header. The standard can work but the Med. would give me 7/8" more drop and a little better clearance of the pipe under the wing.

Now on to the front gear. From the get go I installed the motor bulk head to the plan only to find out that the mount and the motor were to tight and needed to be 1/4" further back. Removed it and re installed it back 1/4". Motor fit perfect and all in well, glassed it in and let it dry.
Now fitting the front gear, to have the lowest position of the tank floor and the gear I had is floor mount ,maybe it would be better for a firewall mount gear in this plane. So with the gear install and the wire cut to give me the ground clearance on the plan, my wheel ends up having to be cut into the wing pan about 3/4". I do have room for a 16oz. Dubro tank.

It's OK I put two dowels in to mount the front of the wing and I'm not using the single bolt on the front of the wing. The cut out came pretty close to it.

I mounted the rest of the gear in the wing and was checking out that there was only 3/4" prop clearance. Thats a little close for me . That was with a 12/9 prop.

I was bugged by the small ground clearance with the prop so I moved the wheel wells in because I had to cut the main gears 5/8".... I had them to long. Now they are as it says on the plan which lowered the rear of the plane some and giving me a little more prop clearance. I still need to sand the area. One other thing I ended up doing is moving in the two rear wing mounting bolts closer together and switching from allen head machine screws to 1/4" nylon wing bolts recessed into tubes.

Don, Think 11 inch props for this plane.

Yeah I think 11/8 might be better.

Prop clearance on grass fields was always marginal, at best, with the P-8. The one I remember from my old club always had bright green, chlorophyll dyed, prop tips :) and that was with an 11" prop.

Sanding and sanding and a few little dabs of putty, primer, sanding......... That's what I did all day . I should be shooting some paint tomorrow. Once it has some colors on it I will post some more Pictures.

What type of paint are you going to use Don?

RE: BUILDING A PHOENIX 8

I use "House of Kolors" automotive urethane. I use it to paint custom bikes and cars so I have a lot of it in my shop.
