Tiger tail IV
1 Attachment(s)
I started a thread a while back on my then newly acquired Tiger Tail IV kit glass and foam. All proceeded fine until during the painting process I noticed the wing sheeting was parting company from the foam wing cores[:@]So I did my best at reataching the loose wing sheeting(go figure) and primed the attempted repairs and ......stuck it aside. Fast forward>>>>This past Memorial day weekend I went about repainting the wing...It did not take long attempting to repaint the white primered areas with the metallic Red finish when I KNEW this was a no go !So I wet sanded and applied a base coat of Black and then sprayed the "red" ,followed with Urethane clear and guess what?? the wing is 'several' shades darker.
Maybe the ' Marley my Dog will save me the trouble and use the da-d thing as a chew toy Lol |
RE: Tiger tail IV
Richard,
Hard to tell from the dark photo you posted. Don't know why that would happen. |
RE: Tiger tail IV
Reds a very translucent. I primer coat with white before shooting color for everything anyway. It takes care of an shade differences.
Chris... |
RE: Tiger tail IV
Correct Chris, I had the exact problem but forgot. Red over blue is a lot different than red over white (my situation).

[:-]knowing what I know now I would simply have applied a light coat of Croma Base Black "base coat and followed by the dark red metallic followed by a wet coat of Duponts Dis cont. Croma Base clear. So I'm in the process of wet sanding all the red wing and fuselage and shooting a light black base coat followed by a light wet sanding using super fine wet or dry sand paper used wet and then shooting the color followed by a 'wet coat' of some existing stock Dupont Croma Clear (now D.C ) So I will mask every thing and post ....

RE: Tiger tail IV
I was very happy with my clear coat experiences. A lot of work but makes the plane look so much better.

Well since last post I sanded and primed and sanded and base coated the white and now masking and applying the Red next[:-]
I feel like I'm adding Liquid LEAD lucky just have to refinish the wing  |
RE: Tiger tail IV
Rich,
glad to hear that you are sorting out those paint issues. It seems like there is something going on with either the lens or the sensor on the left hand of your camera. You probably saw the softness in the pics. My latest electronics store flyer advertises cameras for $50 that shoot about 3 times the resolution of my old but trusty Canon... it's almost an indispensable "shop tool" nowadays. [&:] David. |

I had to have another Pt of Red mixed at the auto paint store, so was a bit apprehensive about the color match to the previously painted fuselage, but all in all it went pretty fair..next and last ,I will bolt the wing on and work out the final trim for the wing I'm working on contrast in flight and the visability of the red is lacking but I love the shade;)

Hi Dave yes my camera and movie clip taker seems to be aging ,thanks for bringing it to my attention. I will "attempt" to clean the lense which appears dirty. Here are some some photos so lets see if the problem persists. The camera has seen a lot of use to around my dusty shop to Sony's credit

RE: Tiger tail IV
Richard,
nicely done! Well, that made a difference. Nothing quite like cleaning your lens! ;) I just wish your other pictures had come out without the smear on the left. Looks like a maiden is in the works! David. |
RE: Tiger tail IV
Thanks Dave ! I'm looking forward to the maiden flight I like how these older design pattern ships groove......

RE: Tiger tail IV
Richard, fantastic job! I'm sure it will fly as good as it looks. Pete

Rich,
That is one of the most beautiful Tiger Tail's Ive ever seen. Those of you gentlemen who can paint a plane and have it come out looking like that are truely inspiring to us mere mortals......LOL Good luck with your maiden.............:D David |

RE: Tiger tail IV
Im just glad to see that I am not the only one to skip cutting grass when there are more important things to be done!!:D

RE: Tiger tail IV
If it flies half as good as it looks, it'll be a dream to fly.

RE: Tiger tail IV
Thanks for ALL the kind words, I have not flown it BECAUSE the wing sheeting had and has lifted in a couple places ..got plenty of paint to match left So where do I get a set of wing cores for the TTIV?????[8D]
