Hi
I think Bem is right a Speeda |
RE: PATTERN AIRPLANE
It looks like a BA, feels like a BA but with those specs it is a Speeda.

RE: PATTERN AIRPLANE
Of course Blue Angels are MK balsa kits where as the Speeda is a fiberglass model. This plane does not have the small bump at the rear of the canopy like the BA does.

RE: PATTERN AIRPLANE
I want to thank everyone for the quick replies. After some follow up on the information supplied I now believe it is a Speeda. For power it has a Super Tiger .61 Bluedhead. I got both the airplane and engine at an estate sale for $15.00. A great bit of luck on my part. I sent the engine to Bart Phillips in New Mexico for inspection and repair as neccessary. It came back with all new bearings and piston ring. So power should be no problem. As for the airplane I installed a set of E-flite retracts and put a servo on each aileron. Now if some one could provide me with the CG range that would be great. The orignal owner/builder did put some marks on the fuslage which I believe are the CG range markings, but I'd like to make sure. If I don't get distracted i hope to fly it this week end.

RE: PATTERN AIRPLANE
I got my SBA Speeda in the air today and just like everyone said, it is fast. I was actually running my engine (Super Tiger G-60 Bluehead) rich and still had plenty of speed. Tomorrow I hope to lean out the engine some and should really see some more speed. It looks like I have a winner.

This is one time I really got lucky. It seemed that no one else was interested in old pattern airplanes when our club has an estate sale. One of our members passed away and his family donated all of his modeling items to the club. Because no one else was bidding on the airplane and engine I just threw a $15 dollar bid out and low and behold I got both items. I flew the Speeda on Friday and Saturday and I,m very pleased with it's perforamce. Now I'll try to add a few additional pictures.

RE: PATTERN AIRPLANE
Hi,
Lucky for You that no one else at the club realized what a treasure it was standing in front of them. $15 for that plane is almost like stealing candy from a baby :) You should donate a couple of hundred $$$ now to the club so they can benefit from it's real value :) What a nice plane. Hope it will give You many good flights and it will last for long time. And I hope the other club members will see when You bring it to the flying field againhow wonderful these classic pattern planes are- on the ground and in the air. /Bo |
