MK Wild 7
 

I've just purchased this kit to add to my collection but am not sure if it qualifies as a Classic Pattern aircraft as I don't seem to able to find any info on this design. The plan says that the plane's designers are Y. Akiba and M. Kato. I would appreciate it very much if anyone could provide any information on this model. I've got some photos of the kit and plans but I can't figure out how to attach them to this post.

I'd say it qualifies, it sure has a lot of Blue Angel influence. How the heck did you come across such a beauty! You lucky dog!

MK kits were very popular in Singapore, back in a day, and many were sold. I think that MK no longer manufacturers kits (a great pity) but some become available from time to time. I have picked up a number of these excellent kits over time. The following are some examples of recent acquisitions. I'm still hoping to add the MK Aurora, Beetle, and Magic to my collection. I may start to build the Joker - since i have a pair of this kit, once my currently project is off the building board.

I've still not had any success with finding any information on the MK Wild 7 on the internet ie. no photos, build logs, comments, history etc. I suspect that it was designed after the Blue Angel and Aurora as it has features that are characteristic of more recent models eg. twin aileron servos, removable stabs. The plans shows a YS120 and a pressurised over CG mounted fuel tank system.

You can build a Wild Beat. You can acquire the cowling, canopy, etc from Don and either of us have the plans. I am building a kit but sent wing tracings and the canopy, etc for Don to copy and use.

You can never have too many MK kits;). Unfortunately, MK ceased operations as of 12/31/2011 [:o] (at least, that's what I've heard from reliable sources). The Wild 7 was Akiba's 4-stroke design following his Beetle. It was designed for the original YS 120 and used Naruke's Silent 120 as a size reference; so not very big for a '4-stroke' pattern design. I think it would fly fine with a YS 61AR or a Hanno Special if kept light. The kit is a think of beauty with the shaped parts and full sized sheeting (I have a kit myself). I don't know the exact year it was designed, but I would guess around 1988.

Ibelieve MKstarted kitting it in 1993 (or late 92). It's not shown in my 92 MKcatalog. Ipicked mine up in mid 93. Fuselage is almost half finished (where Ileft off in late 93). May want to complete it now that I'm getting back into the hobby.

It has a deeper lower cowl / air intake for the 120's 4strokes and the pipes, vice the older 60 based designs. The Wild7 was designed around the YS120AC which had the air chamber on the back, hence the redesigned cowling.

The size is representative of what the F3A planeslooked like, prior to going to the large 2meter sizes. and larger engine displacements. At the time, a .602 stroke or 1.20 4 strokewere the max allowed.Remember, the rules were about to change, henceyou didn't hear much ofthe Wild7 as it was rendered obsolete almost immediately due to this fact.

Very nice design and beautiful kit. Imet both Akiba &amp;Naruke in Austria at the F3AWorld Champs in 93, as well as Mr. Kato (Jr.) and the son of Mr. Yamada of YSengine fame.
I don't have ready access to the kit at present, so getting the data for it is a bit difficult.

Absolutely! MK has been out of business for a few years; so no problem with copyright! Still a great looking model!

Maybe strip it and refinish it in the MK scheme?

I flew 5 more flights on my Phoenix Typhoon (Wild 7) today and love this plane. I am flying on 5s and it has plenty of power and just a thrill to fly. It may not compare to the current pattern planes but it sure makes a fun sport plane!

I have the complete Wild Beat kits available. Laser cut parts clear canopy, plan, fiberglass cowl & pipe tunnel, all blocks, sticks, and sheeting included.
