MK Thunderbird 40

1 Attachment(s)
Iwas told that this is a good place to ask my question about a complete MK Thunderbird 40 kit I bought in 1984. It has only been opened to look at the plans. One of the guys at our local field told me that the MK kits are sought after, but didn't know how much it might be worth. Even though Ihave had this for years, Iknow very little aboutMK, Katoand his planes. Someone has suggested that theThunderbird was his first pattern design. Isanyone familiar with these kits and know about the history and possible value? Thanks.

Nostrovio,

The 60 sized Thunderbird was Masahiro Kato's second competition pattern plane. His first entry into pattern was called the Thunder Chief..

Here's a thread that has a listing ofthe kits produced by MK. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=9636215

Although it doesn't have the following like his Blue Angel I think it's awesome looking plane. Sort of a cross between a P-51 and a Kaos. You indeed have a rare kit.

I'd copy the plans and trace all the parts onto paper to use for templates than build one form scatch using the templates.

Nice kit. Best way to find out what it''s worth is to post an ad for it on ebay or in the classifieds. Since its looks to be in excellant condition a collector might give you the most. Post it for a $150 auction on ebay with a $250 buy it now and see what happens.
