If it were me I would try to get as much radio as I could to start off with such as the 14FG, search for this number 380712581049 on ebay. This radio uses all the Futaba 2.4 ghz techology FHSS, FAST, and FASTEST. It also has telemetry. Next there's the Futaba 8FGS which also had 14 channels available.

Also on ebay theres a Futaba 9C with a 2.4ghz module and The 72 mhz syn module that lets you select any 72 Mhz airplane freq. Also comes with a 2,4ghz rx and a 72mhz rx. $350 free ship. Goto ebay and do a search for this number 321202894298 to find it.

There's also a 7C 2.4g NIB for $170 on ebay. Goto ebay and do a search for this number 290973011979 to find it.

Yes you will really like that birdy. It has done very well in vintage pattern competition across all the disciplines.

the Futaba 6EX you mentioned is a decent radio, BUT I agree with Rougedog to go slightly bigger if you can. (even a tactic ttx650.. very nice entry level computer radio)
My dad (age 93!) has three 6 EX'es, although they work FINE, they do leave room for improvement... (for example, there isn't an easy built in method of using dual elevators or for using elevons)

I agree with Atlanta 60 for a change.......................LOL:rolleyes: (Sorry Buddy, I couldn't resist) The Dirty Birdy ARF is a great choice. A guy at my field has one with a bone stock OS61SF with stock muffler and it pulls the plane fine. Of course it flies better with the gear up, but obviously you cannot do that for SPA.

I'm planning on building a GP Dirty Birdy after I get my winter project finished, but since I don't plan on flying in any competition with it, I'm going to put my rear exhaust NR Speed 13 in it and watch it Haul A____ across the flying field.................;)

David, if you want to come out and have some fun with your plane I allow pipes and retracts at the Wings SPA event in North Fort Worth. I don't report those scores to SPA but it's about participation, not points. :)
