new to classic pattern, could use some help.

I bought a Aurora by phillips Aircraft. Does anyone have a manual for this plane?

I miss spoke its a PA-2 by Phillips. So if anyone know where I could find a manual that would great.

There might not be a build manual. The MK kits just had a plan no build manual.

These kits were usually put together by experienced builders. Here's a very low resolution scan

it's the only info I have been able to find. I did the best I could to clean it up. With it you might be able to glean all the info you need to build it.

Maybe someone else will chime in with a better scan of the plan or even a build manual.

No manual for the Phillip's kits. Just the plan that you see scanned above. Plenty of expert help here in the pattern forums. Look for a build thread of a glass and foam pattern kit here, too. There will be a lot of valuable information there.

Thanks guys. Looks like the CG is 6.5" back from the leading edge.

Yeah, back in the height of Classic Pattern. Usually for about $79 you got a brown box with some wire cut foam cores, a molded fuselage, a piece of plywood cut roughly to the shape of a firewall and a small rolled up piece of paper depicting a plan with some measurements on it. Ah, those were the days.

Sounds like a rewarding but frustrating time.

Also, here is a picture of my friend Tom with his PA-2 from about 1987/88

Dude! Did everyone in the 1980's have a Magmun PI mustache?

yak86 10-02-2013 06:59 AM

hahaha I was 2 year old when that photo was taken! I bet this plane is as old as me.... glad to see it still looks perfect.

So I thought the guy said it was a OS61 rear exhaust but after i took the plane apart I found that its a OPS super 60!

It wasn't frustrating, I would dare say that 99.9% of those competing in pattern knew how to build an airplane. There was no need for a manual with step by step instructions. All that was really needed were the measurements. It was very rewarding to build something and then take it to the field and be the only one there with a plane that looked different than everyone else. I guess you could say they were the ARF of the day.

No mustache, but I did have a McGyver muttlet:o

I like the comment about building. I just started flying pattern with an ARF and can already feel the need to build my own plane, a plane that I can tweak certain areas to fit my flying style and performance needs. Your are right, flyers knew how to build planes in order to get the most performance from them and why designs continued to radically evolve. Its a part of the hobby I hope we never lose.
