Phoenix 8 C/G location?
OK. I know that I have not been around for some time, but, interest is slowly coming back. That being said, I got a Phoenix 8, with slight damage, and am fixing it now. This thing weighs a ton. Has O.S.Max 61SF, non-retracts, but does have a nice finish on it.
My question is where is the C/G located? Would also like to know the angle of attack of the wing as plane sits on the ground? Good Prop and rpm on stock muffler would be a plus. Thanks Guys in advance. Dave Wenzel |

Hi Dave,
Here are the plans and instructions. Robert |
Thank You Robert.
This has 2-3/4 mains and 1-3/4 nose wheel. Will probably look pretty weird in the air if i can get the nose down far enough and still have some prop clearance. Might have to make new main legs to mate up with a new nose gear leg cause I did not get the original one with this plane. I fly off grass always, and some of my club members have never seen old pattern planes, so I want it to look somewhat good, but the talking is mainly in the air, however at the weight of this guy I hope it can get out of the grass. Thanks Again. DAVE |
My pleasure Dave. I suggest giving the aircraft a 2-3 degree nose up attitude, especially when taking off from grass. Some folks will say to have nose tilted down, this is wrong. This results in the aircraft springing up into the air on takeoff. Not pretty. Having the wing at a positive angle of attack gives that smooth rise from the ground that gets you the 10's from the judges.
Good luck with your Phoenix! Robert |
