FK Phoenix Build

Hi there, since this is kind of a rare bird, I'm sharing some build pics. Some tell me this is a FunKey ripoff of a Magic 60. I've built many Yellow kits made by FK, and I can tell you the quality of this kit is top notch. Very light and well laid polyester fuse.

It's been fun. I now have an engine, so I will be painting soon.

Hope you enjoy it!

David<--- just to keep it confusing enough :-)

I'm fitting them in prior to paint. Seriously considering gear doors....I think I have all the hardware I need for that.

Gear doors would look great on your Magic...worth the effort.

Hey guys, what tubing material would you use for the pipe exhaust diverter shown on the plans? Wouldn't this concept overheat the engine?

I once had a ModelHob Merlin (Spain), and remember being advised not to do that.

David,

Diverters don't really pose an overheating issue. We've tested them and they works without robbing the engine of power either.

I would take a piece of aluminum tubing of the same or slightly larger diameter as the stinger, bend a smooth curve into it and then couple it to the stinger with narrower silicone tubing and tie wraps or small clamps. MK actually used to make these diverters and they came with hardware so you could just attach it to the pipe and you've be done. On occasion you'll find them for sale on the auction site. I bought some last year.

I would also build a balsa rectangular duct section inserted in a diagonal fashion through the fuse where the diverter would be housed. This sort of insulates the inner part of the fuse from the heat and you can finish it with the rest of the model for fuel proofness. It is only visible from the fuse bottom where the stinger exists as the top part is covered by the pipe tunnel.

Paul, sorry just saw this almost 2 yrs later. I have not done anything else to it, but I'm thinking I need to finish priming it else I will never be done LOL. I do have everything I need to finish it.
Once it is all gray and pretty I'm sure the rest will follow quickly. How is yours coming along?

Hi David,
Glad to see you might be getting back to this one. I could use some motivation. Mine was a freebee that was damaged but in good enough shape to save. To date I have completely stripped it all down and am ready to commence repair work. But first I have a Dirty Birdy ARF I'm finishing for my Dad and then I have a 75" span Kaos looking thing I've got to do some minor repair to, once again for my Dad. And then finally I'll be onto the FK Magic knock off for myself.
