Some classics from the LVRCs this past weekend. Been wanting to go to this contest since 1982. Stan told me they cut advanced registration at 70. Back in the day.

Had some classic planes attending, which did demo's during the noontime break before awards. One was an Illusion. I can remember clearly watching Dave Brown fly his Illusion at the 1983 NATS. His stall turns were unforgettable. He would stop the plane at the top of the Figure M with quarter rolls, then the plane would pivot around the cg exactly 180 degrees, then track a perfect down line. This was with wind blowing 10 to 15 mph down the runway at Chicopee, MA. It was a pleasure watching Richard Mintz and his dad taking their Illusion through the paces. I did get a flight on the Phoenix 7 after the contest.

Great seeing Stan (from the original S&W Racing Fuels) who showed he still has the touch, Dean Pappas, Bob Hunt (built some interesting EU-1a's back in the day), Billy Macek. Enjoyed spending time with Dad as well, who called for me back at that 1983 NATS.

Great contest. Thanks Dana and Andy for a super weekend.

Thanks for sharing Don!
I used see those guys at contests regularly back in the late '70s and early '80s and I still buy fuel from Stan. Willy had a pair of 10lb Quality Line (glass and foam) Magics powered by the venerable YS 60FR. He was very tough to beat.

LVRCS put on a great contest, my thanks to all of the guys (and Gals) that supported this event by showing up and working hard to keep things running smoothly. I think the number of contestants was 31! F3A lives and I am grateful that so many people are able to participate. The weather cooperated somewhat, we were stopped a few times for rain, but overall a great weekend. If there are enough guys that have classics, I would really like to participate. Let's start throwing around ideas and see if there is enough interest to have a classics round at an upcoming contest!

Cheers

Richard

There's a lot on the schedule from D1-D3 yet this year; 5 more contests that I can get to from SC. But David Hoppes. and Russ Chiles have been talking about a pattern get together somewhere up the east coast. I'd do my best to attend, especially with the new EU1-A! ( we would have to have a "Novice" class though!!!) :) :) :)

Forgive me Don for side tracking, but I got a PM from a guy nearby this morning that might interest some of you classic guys, especially the Phoenix fans! Read on. If interested in any of his goods, let me know. I plan to be at Culpeper, Monroe, Green Sea, and Jacksonville, and will deliver for you.....

Now this: I have some planes here, I have been carrying around for a long time, even our 14 years in FL. I would like to just give them away. If you know someone that can use these, maybe a guy that needs a little hand for spa pattern. No money for them, but they will need a re-furbish, as they have been used. I do have a new Skyglas P-6 fuse, white gel coat, two sets of cut P-6 wings, maybe the stabs are in a box upstairs.
A P-5 fuselage, a P-8 that has seen many war days, I had started on it, it is in really great shape, a P-6 that had the retract areas chopped up a little, I did get some spring aires in it, its claim to fame, painted by D. Brown, a WM Intruder fuse, just needs put in a jig, re-build the front end, and maybe some other stuff that I have in the attic.
It has been a while since I have touched this stuff, and I know it can all be resurrected without too much trouble.
I have other stuff that I will keep, and get on to it after our re-location.
If you do not know anyone, or want to take a stab at especially the P-8 yourself, maybe give me a call, you can come get it all, or someone else.

Thanks for the post on the planes. I just got around to reading it, I am on RCG more. Two guys from Knoxville came over to get the stuff. I had a little remorse after the stuff was gone, something like losing my favorite hunting dog. The P-8 was nice, just needed wing glassed, and the fuse primered and painted. I am full of stuff, in the shop and the attic.
