SkyGlas kits
 

What can you tell me about SkyGlas fabricators? I have a kit but I see no name of the model, but it looks to be a 60 size.

I built a few SkyGlass kits back in the 70's. They were made with polyester resin and glass with a white Gel Coat outer layer. layer.

I think they were produced by Hobby Barn back then. The kits were OK, but not great. They sold for approximately $79.95.

Post a picture of the kit, fuselage and wing and we can tell you what plane it was.

Forgot it is 54" long with a 65" wingspan.

I'm thinking it's a Phoenix, but not quite sure which one, 6 maybe?

I also built several Sky Glass kits in the 70's. That looks like a P 6 to me also. If the tail fin is slightlty tilted to one side it's definitely a 6. Lots of the P6 kits had to be cut apart down the top seam and re-glued to fix them. If my memory is correct, Bob Reuther was the originator of Sky Glass and sold them through his hobby shop, Hobby World.

It could have been Hobby World, I built a few of their A6 Intruder kits. They were extremely heavy and the wing saddle was uneven.

Well you guys are pretty sharp, found a little tag that was bent over on the box which read Phoenix 6.

The pictures don't show the foam cores for the stab. Do you have them also?

I had both the Phoenix 5 and 6. I preferred the 5 because it was a little smaller, I think a little more stylish, and a little quicker. The 6 was smoother. They were both very nice.

That's definitely the P-6. Had one that I never had a chance to get to, but found one again a while back that will get built in a few years. Back in the day, it was a bit difficult to distinquish between the P-6 and the P-7 while airborne. My H9 P-7 does fly very, very well though.
