Curare ARF

Does anyone know if this company every put their models on sale, or if they can be bought somewhere else cheaper? Looking to get one of these Curare ARF's.

This looks very interesting. I have been waiting for someone to make a classic pattern in an ARF. Wonder what took them so long? And both gas and electric. Unfortunately shipping alone to the US is $22.50 + $220 in fees. Ouch!

rc_heli_flier 09-27-2017 12:30 PM

Actually I entered my address and it only showed the shipping to the US as 22.50 euros by DHL.

Sparky4460 09-27-2017 12:58 PM

I hope you are right. But take a look at the shipping page at the bottom of their web site. I have sent them a message confirming the shipping charges.

rc_heli_flier 09-27-2017 01:03 PM

I saw that on their site. I sent them a email as well inquiring about the cost.

These have been around a while and there have been a few ordered and shipped here. I think there was a discussion to order several at once and have them shipped here and then distributed to the individual buyers.

Yak13 10-09-2017 12:46 PM

I actually ordered and received two of these. They are really well made. Shipping for BOTH was only 32 Euro. It took a month to get here, but arrived safe and sound.

I also had the shipping cost doubts, so I emailed them to ask.

Mines been sitting at the airport in Frankfurt since Saturday morning. Not sure what the delay is, maybe that's normal?

dhal22 10-09-2017 10:23 PM

Maybe waiting for a spot to open on a plane. Greyhound does that.

Yak13 10-10-2017 11:53 AM

That exactly happened to me. And the seller's communication is lousy. Actually my boxes came in and the tracking still placed it in Austria.

rc_heli_flier 10-10-2017 12:18 PM

Ok thanks. Maybe mine is really not at the airport in Frankfurt anymore and just doesn't show on the tracking.

Do you remember how long it took to be delivered to you once it was shipped?

I purchased a Ripmax Acro Wot from them just two months back. The shipping was 22 Euros. It arrived in Canada in less than two weeks. I had excellent tracking results, Austria->Hamburg->Montreal->Winnipeg. I couldn't get the Ripmax kit from the UK. 22 Euros is best shipping rate I have seen. There was a single tracking number from the shop to Hamburg and a second tracking number from DHL to Canada Post.

The only time the Curare went on sale was when the initial stock was low.

I received my Curare yesterday from Schweighofer. Took a little over 2 weeks arrive from Germany. It arrived in great shape - no visible shipping damage that I can see. Total cost to ship to me in Maryland was 355.75 euros, which is about $434 dollars. The price listed on their site of 399.00 euros includes the VAT tax which you do not have to pay if buying from the US. It was 333.25 euros for the plane and 22.50 euros for shipping, which I think is pretty reasonable.

When you assemble it, don't bother with setting up steerable nose gear. I fly off of grass with mine and it is not needed. I have the Jetcraft retracts that they sell in mine and so far they are working great. The Jetcraft nose gear are lockable.

I also painted the inside of the canopy for better visibility. I also have the servo hooked up to the flaps, but do not use them.

Very much so. I'm in the UK and have had one for a couple of years.

It is truly excellent, though I suggest you use the 60 size E-Flite all metal electric retracts rather than the ones they supply as an option.

Vintage MK Curare .60 Hanno Prettner circa 1982

Hello,
To anyone interested, I own a vintage NIB Mk Curare .60 Hanno Prettner version and I'm relatively sure there are not very many of these kits left. I purchased this kit from Indy Sports sometime in the 1983-84 timeframe. I would be interested in selling to the right modeler. Also, this is the full balsa version, fully sheeted wings, fin and stabs, and requires a significant amount of carving and shaping of the fuselage. It also comes with flaps. I built 3 of these back in the 1980's and as I recall it took me close to 150hrs to complete each.
In any case....please let me know if there's any interest.

You just might have missed it on October 22 - Black Thursday sale - 300 Euros shipped to USA/Canada.

If you are flying nitro the E-Flite NG will fail. Not a matter of "if" but "when". I installed the Jetcraft just to see if it would last. It didn't. Failed after approx 6 flights. Lasted longer than both E-Flite installations I've tried on other classic pattern acft. Several of my classic pattern buddies on the west coast have tried the E-Flites also. None have been successful. I even tried soft mounting the last time, still didn't work. The Jetcraft failed on me last Friday. Zoom in on the pic and you'll see an extra piece of coupler I slid over the header as pavement protection just in case (they always fail "up"). It worked great!
