Carl Weber's "Sequel"
 

I was cleaning out the closet and ran across a Jan. 1975 American Aircraft Modeler magazine that I picked up from a Garage sale. Opened it to page 28...... Here sat this sweet looking plane called the "Sequel". Was very impressed with the detailed building article that is with it. The part that bumbed me out was this is a 2 issue build. I don't have the Feb. 1975 AAM magazine (believe me... I ripped through the whole box) Does anyone have this issue? Has anyone ever flown/seen one fly? It is a sharp looking plane!!!! Could be a good winter project.

I am interested in trying to find a set of plans for this plane. I remember a club member back in the early '80's had one of these and it flew great. I tried AMA plan service, but they don't list this plane. Does anyone know where I might get a set of plans for this plane?

When I saw this thread, I thought, "I know this plane". But I can't say whether I saw it fly. Carl "Bud" Weber was a member of the Milwaukee Flying Electrons back when I was a member in the mid to late 70s and early 80s. He was a great flyer. If I remember he used this same paint scheme on many of his planes, so what I remember could well have been a Dirty Birdy or something similar. I just rejoined the club after a more than 20 year absence and learned he had passed away and that the club sponsors an annual memorial meet in his memory. There are probably some posters here from the Milwaukee area who can provide some additional information.

Guys,

Robert in the AMA plans section printed a full size set of plans for me back in November. They will also cut foam wings. If anyone needs a "flying fork assembly" please PM me. I have a very good supply. My local laser cutter is going to cut a short kit for me when he has some spare laser time. I may do my first build thread with the Sequel. The only issue with doing that is that with my travel for work it could take me about a year to complete. Does anyone have an idea of what canopy he used in the original construction article? It looks similar to the Compensator Canopy to me. The plans show a different canopy shape.

Carl Weber used the Flying Fork that was designed by Bob Violett for The Sequel. The flying fork was used to make a flying stab. The stab is the elevator with only 3/8" up and down travel required. I hope I have explained this well enough. The linkage for the flying fork is all internal and is a cool idea. When I came across this model a few months ago I started to research the flying fork. I contacted Bob Violett who was helpful in regards to who had purchased the original molds from him. I followed the trail and tracked the molds down. One of my goals is to preserve as much history as possible so those of us that want to build the classic pattern planes can do so. For those interested in a flying fork assembly so they can build The Sequel per plans, please send me a PM.

Guys,

I am going to try to upload a picture of the Flying Fork Unit. A fiberglass arrow shaft can be used in place of the wooden dowel rod if extra strength is need.

I just spoke to Dan Walton the Owner of Laser Technologies in Troy, MO. He has the cut files for The Sequel and Mach 1 ( I will post on the Mach 1 thread also). He will run some precision laser cut short kits if there is enough interest. If you would like to get on the list please contact Dan @ (636) 462-7400. For the record, I am not affiliated with Laser Technologies. Dan does fantastic laser cutting and takes a great deal of pride in what he does.
