So you think you know your classic pattern planes?

Ok then, ignoring the color choices and the geek in the 24 year old pic, tell me what plane that is.

This message will self destruct in 7 days....tick...tick....tick....

-Mike (I swear I was never that geeky....I swear!)

Oh no you DIDN'T!!!!!!

Cheater, you read it somewhere...you had to.....I haven't ever heard of this plane on here before. Phooey!!!

But yep that's what it was. polyester glass fuse, foam wing and stab cores. Nothing would stick to that fuse, I ended up putting screws through the glass into the firewall.

But it flew great!!! It was also the only plane I've ever flown at -1 deg wing incidence. Odd, but it worked.

Well yeah... I did cheat a little. But it was still just luck. Actually I´ve never seen the thing before. I just remember that somewhere you had mentioned your first pattern plane, did a search and there it was. ;)

Just a stroke of luck that this one was really the one you mentioned and not another, since you seem to have had a few. :)

So I just couldn´t keep myself from making that guess.

One degree negative wing incidense? My Leo 90 from Giant Scale Planes came with -1 degree wing incidense built right into it. Why do you suppose they did that?

I had a Pagan too. I was my first 60 size pattern aircraft and was powered by an Enya 60. I built a second one with tri gear retracts but ended up selling it before it flew. As I recall the kit was made by a company called Flightglass or Fliteglass. They also made a scale P51 and Ralph’s Gladiator. Here’s an image of my Pagan in flight and on the runway circa 1968. The third image is Ralph and his Gladiator.

Thanks...that's the only other Pagan I've ever seen. And yes it was Fliteglass. But nothing would stick to the fuse. Wierd. Like it was just permeated with wax or something. Mine had a (get this now) piped Fox Eagle II with a robart pump. It would out turn a Rossi. But it only had one position it ran well in: wide open. But the power was incredible. I bet that plane weighed every ounce of 9.5 lbs.

I know of at least five of them in our club that were built around the same time I had mine. The problem you were having with gluing was the wax that floats to the top of the glass lay-ups. The wax seals off the resin and makes it have a hard non-sticky surface . It must be removed by washing the inside of the fuse with detergent.

Tsk tsk. Aimer, you really should seek shade out there in the desert. It's effecting your eyesight.

But at least you didn't say it looked like a Lanier Stinger :)
