I also have a t-2-a mkII that i am repainting.

Please post pictures of the T2A MkII. I have one that Iam going to redo myself. I like these birds that have the tuned pipe going through the top of the fuse.

I dug up some photos to post....

Two of my Maya. Im a bit gray-er and round-er these days. :)

Photo of my Escape from 87/88 vintage. Conquest 4 from 89/90/91 time frame.

And one classic image of two of the best pilots I had the good fortune to learn a bit of aerobatics from- Dean Pappas and Ivan Christianson at the Tidewater NATS in 1988.

Enjoy!

Bob

Hi Bob,

I saw your name on the forum awhile back but I wasn’t sure if you were the same Bob Brassell that I knew from the Atlanta R/C Club. Now the picture confirms it! Always enjoyed watching you fly your pattern aircraft at the field and even that kick butt, beat up, old 40 size, Ugly Stik with the piped ASP 61!!! That thing was unreal! When the 2M pattern trend started no one in the club followed and pattern flying died a quick death. We are all flying at the same field off Constitution and there are a few of us still flying “classic pattern” aircraft. I sill have a Jester with a piped 61 and a newly completed Kwik Fli III taper wing (build thread is on this forum) and after a gazillion years I finally have my Tiporare ready to fly (build thread is on this forum). Here are some photos of the guys you’ll remember at the field http://geocities.com/rc_place/page2.htm

Mike ! How are you... ltns.

Pretty kewl thread. I run into friend from both NY and Atlanta :)

Nice QF-III !! The Tipo looks really sharp too. Be sure to tell the folks down there I said Hi !

I still have the UglyStick (orange one) although these days it has an OS91FS on it. Still flys too. That thing is ... ummmmm ... 18 years old now.

I wish I still had the T2-A MkII kit I grabbed one from Tom Atkins years ago. Sold it before I moved up here to Cleveland to lighten the load. Dumb.

I do however have an EU-1A in the box. Old Aerocompsites kit. The glass work is fine, stab cores are ok, the wings are already sheeted, and are a bit of a mess, but salvageable. I need some instructions or plans though. I might have someone cut some new wing cores for me too. Have to make sure where to place the main gear. Anyone have EU-1A plans ?

You can get the T2A MKII kit from Carolina Custom Aircraft. Dan is a nice guy. You can contact him here: [email protected] Or look up Deadstick here on RCU.

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to let you know that the box picture is of a T2A MK I. That is the original Tom Atkins design that is done in all glass. My kit is a BUNCH lighter.... I am going to attach pictures of the T2A MK I and the plan for the MK II.. The Mk II is a true ballistic pattern ship. One is presently underway... so will keep you informed.

Dean, I actually started another thread on the Maya not knowing about this thread. The reason was that I came across the photo below in an old ad and was totally struck by the beauty of the design. So much so that I had to know more about it. Well, I have two questions, if you please. Which Mk is the one below and are plans for any of your Mayas available today?

Thanks, David

RE: MAYA PATTERN AIRCEAFT

Hello Dave,
Thanks for the kind comments, the MK 5 is the one that Phillips Aircraft kitted, and was pictured in the HobbyPoxy ad.
Larry Phillips just passed away recently, and an old buddy of his is now in possession of all the plugs, molds, and tooling.
He is actually interested in starting up a retirement business making the old Phillips kits.
The pencil plans for the wooden 5 are lost to me, which is terribly frustrationg. I have good inked drawings of the MK2 and pencil drawings of the 3 and 4.
I also have dtrawings of a sub 2-meter design for early YS 120 four-stroke. Given today's horsepower,
the MK 2 would be the best flyer, but it is just a teeny bit less sexy looking than its successors.
The MK 5 was changed soley to allow me to fly well with the horsepower we had then, given that schedules were changing so
that energy-managing your way through a schedule was getting more and more difficult.
The two wooden MK 5s (1988) weighed 7lb 7 oz and 7 lb and 7lb 9 oz. The glass ship was 7-3/4 ln but had a YS long-stroke in '90.
With a 12-12 prop it was capable of flying way too fast!

I will see if MK 5 kits will be available, and post the appropriate info on this forum.
I still need to scrub the dust off the old MK 2 and take a picture (only survivor) and post it here.

until later,
Dean

Hi Dean,

Sorry to hear about Larry.

I will keep an eye in the thread here for info on future availability of the planes. There are a lot of folks I run into on a regular basis who would love to have a M-5 or PA-2 available to them.

Bob

Hi Bob,
he also has the molds for the Mistress, which was quite popular.

Dean,

I'm very sorry to hear about the passing of Larry Phillips. I think I built at least one of everything he kitted....If his friend changes his mind on kitting Larry's old kits, please have him contact me. I would love to put the PA 2 and Mistress back on the market.

take care,

Dan
