hi guys, just cant wait to finish a proyect without thinking on another one

last year I finished my brand scratch build kwik fly mk III, it flyes great!

now im building an own pattern desing, for 46 engines
but today i saw this Calypso in another forum and i love it!!!
must fly great doesn t it????????
about what ive heard its a hanno prettner design, can someone tell me something more about this airplane?, are plans anywhere available? wingspan? engine needed?
just to have it on mind as a future proyect

The Calypso was indeed a Prettner design and won the World Championship in 1984 I believe. It was kitted by a company called Model Tech and came with a prebuilt wooden fuselage and pre sheeted wing/stab and a fiberglass cowling. Very simple to put together and flew very well. It just wasn't as "stylish" as the planes of that era. I don't believe there were plans available for it in the US but I would check German Model magazines as most of Hanno's planes were available in plan form in that country. The plane was flown with a "Hanno OS .61 pumped w/pipe" or any good rear exhaust engine mounted inverted with the pipe in a tunnel underneath the wing. I have seen a couple of these show up on Ebay... and as the rule goes: there is ALWAYS another one. Hope you can find one... ask in this forum.. who knows....

i feel a bit desapointed about what you said that the airplane is difficult to find
as many others classic pattern airplanes, if it is a world champion, designed by a super world champion it should be available for everibody

hope someone can give me some 3d-views and the specs

You can find one, dont be too disappointed. It was a World Champ, but back in 1983. Times
change... designs change and generally pattern models are kitted only for a relatively short timeframe as there is always a "new trend" that must be followed.
I had a Calypso with a YS 60, and it was a great airplane to fly and have fun with- but it
was outclassed by the newer designs of the day, and this was back about 1988.

I really don't think that the Model tech version was an accurate reproduction of the earlier European kit from the 80's... I wouldn't judge the plane based on the Modeltech version, although I have no idea where you would find the original kit. It seemed rare at the time.

Excuse me for butting in here, but I believe that there's some confusion on Hanno's airplane at the World Champs. If it was the World Champs in Pensacola, Hanno was flying a 'Supra" and he was using a Supertigre .61 side exhaust with a pipe and retracts. I remember watching him fly one flight. Few people who never saw him in person knew that he used braces to walk. However, I grew up watching some of the best pattern flyers in the South and could tell when I saw greatness. Hanno was in a class all to himself!
