Mid South VRCS Fly-IN Class III Pattern Results
1 Attachment(s)
Guys, if you missed the Mid-South Vintage RC Society fly-In missed a great day of flying and the Class III Pattern Event. Here are some pictures. Dave Burton was first with his Birty Sun Fly IV, Duane Wilson was 2nd with his King Altair, and Ronnie Weaver was 3rd with a Sr Falcon. Thanks to Jeff Petroski of Home and Hobby Solutions for the donation of one of his Taurus kits for a prize give-away. His Kwik Fli III kit and model was awesome so get on the waiting list for the next run of kits!!
Congratulation to all the great flying! I should be posting some other pictures of the fly-in later on this week in the events forum. Thanks, Bob Harris |

Looks like you all had a great time! What types of modifications are allowed from the original kit plans or design plan. Looks like some of the aircraft have been modified from the plan.

Well, at the Mid-South Fly-In the number 1 rule is to have fun!! Number 2 is no whining allowed!! Generally at this event if the model looks like a certain model, it is a certain model. There is a engine restriction with no piped or supercharged engines. Everything else goes. Again it is the fun of flying with some great guys, conversing in the pits and seeing some history from the past that is the focus of the event! Not the stressful competition mode. We had some great weather and good flying. I don't even think we had any bad crashes!! Dave Platt put his Falcon 56 into the trees for a few hours before the Club President and field owner's son came and bumped it out of a 80 ft tree with his Bobcat! Dave did some minor field repairs and went on to win the Concours with it!! See, even the trees at this field are gentle!!!

Bob;
Just saw the great pictures. How did you get that picture of the King Altair in flight so closely cropped--did your daughter take that one too? BTW--The Altair's modifications were built by Jack Dunn with SPA competition in mind. Primary changes were a ten-inch shortening of the original 80" wing, and a change in the vertical fin to allow for better knige-edge flight--everything else except the canopy is original K.A. I was fortunate enough to buy this plane RTF from someone leaving the hobby. I liked the way this K.A. flys so much, I have scratch-built 2 more, with maiden flights for both scheduled later this summer---one built to the original 80" span with inverted engine, and the other a slightly clipped-wing version with 6" off the span. I DID change the fin to a bit more conventional look, but received designer Vic Husak's blessing for the change. Jeff from Home and Hobby Solutions is planning on kitting the plane later this year in both original, and modified versions. |

Yep Duane these were my Daughter pictures she took. I should be sending you a CD of them as I just can't seem to e-mail them to you. A beautiful bird you have there!! Hope to post some more picture on the MidSouth Webpage soon. Just been really busy at work and have not gotten around to it.
BTW guys, Duane also won the Best Finished Model award for his King Altair. It was a big hit with the guys at the MidSouth Flyin!! Bob Harris |

Woah, Kevin Costner flies r/c? I never knew that. Did he get any stick time or was he simply swamped with autograph requests?[sm=lol.gif]
