Help Identify this plane

1 Attachment(s)
I just recently was given this almost finished plane. It looks like a classic pattern plane to me and would like some help identifying it. The wings appear to be foam core with balsa sheeting and the fuse is fiberglass. The two wing mounted retracts say "Kraft" on them.

Please let me know if this would be a good SPA plane. Also, is it legal for a SPA plane to use an electric motor and batteries? If yes on both accounts, I may finish this model with an electric motor and bring it to a contest.

Thanks,
Matt

Joe Bridi's Dirty Birdy. With Phil Kraft's electric retract system. What a prize.

Matt,

Why haven't we seen you at any pattern meets???......still have your katana?.....that power system would be perfect in a 2meter pattern plane built for electric...

JP wins on this one.. it is a Fiberglass Dirty Birdi....great flying plane...btw... if you DON'T want those Kraft electric retracts, I have an old plane that could use them...I like the old Kraft units and am looking for another set....

If you make it electric I will drive to TX and beat you. LOL Just kidding, great find.

I would switch it to spring air retracts and throw a Tower 75 in the front.

Sorry, but to me it looks more like a UFO.

IIRC, I believe the wing trailing edge was swept as well. This one looks straight.

Well, it's not a UFO. I'm currently building one. It definitely resembles the Dirty Birdy.

Yes, the TE is swept .98" - close enough to 1" - on the UFO. The fin/rudders are different, too, as well as a number of other details such as thicker wing and stab airfoils, anhedral stab and a deeper fuselage on the UFO.

Its most definatly a Bridi Dirty Birdy.

And yes, it is on the SPA's approved list, and can be flown in SPA events.
