Looking for a thrill ship...
 

I am looking for a plane that I can wring the crap out of as far as aerobatics go, but still will hold up to high speed passes and dives and so forth. I am not looking for a 3D plane. I have no desire to fly 3D yet. I am a speed freak. I do full throttle touch and gos with my Tower Hobbies Uproar 40 and I fly the bejezus out of my Modeltech Extra .25, which has a Magnum .28 in it.

I am considering a Quikie 500 plane to satisfy my speed demon, but I want something more aerobatic with more graceful lines. I would like to build someting that actually looks like a plane and not a box with wings. I have a GMS .76 sitting around that need a carbuerator and a plane to be installed in. Any ideas???

With a hot .61 engine, pipe, and retracts, you'd want something like a Mach I or a Banshee. Jim Martin's Banshee was a FAST model, and did large loops and figure-M's.

Dan at Carolina Custom Aircraft kits a number of older pattern ships. The T2A MkII is a rocket ship and most of the others are pretty fast, as well. They will all stand up to screaming high speed passes with no problems. He is on this forum, user id of Dedstick, as well. His e-mail is:

As Mark said, the T2A MK II I kit is a barn burner!!.... Set up with a Rear Exhaust Piped .60 it is probably the fastest of the planes I kit. Please send me an email at [email protected] and I will get you a brochure out of my planes. I am attaching a reduced plan of the T2A MK II to this thread to give you an idea of the design. I'm also working on a glass/foam Banshee which should be available soon..... Ballistic pattern ships are Great fliers...

Hey Vertigo,

If you just want speed, think about a Speed Cobra ? small airplane, std. for a 10cc like a Hanno Prettner OS (rear exhaust - piped), or anything fitting a fan.
Record set in the time right after it was designed was set well over 300km/h, while in that time a .61 normally didn't run faster then 15 -16.000rpm. Imagine with something running at 25000rpm [8D]

The T2A is a fantastic model and would have my vote as well. If you prefer an all wood model, another one to consider would be an Utter Chaos, which is a modern version of the venerable Kaos .60. It has a Curare wing and a longer tail moment than the original Kaos. I placed second at the old Southwest Championships with one back in the early 80's. With retracts and a rear exhaust OS Max .61, it was a bullet. Blue Bird recently took over the Bridi Model kit line. Do a Google search for them.

And the Bluejay kits are very nice. I recently built the Dirty Birdy 60. The service was great, the wood was beautiful and the plane is a real blast from the past.

Wow, I thought that this thread was dead! I recently purchased a built Carl Goldberg 63" span Extra 300 and I'm loving that plane. It came loaded, engine, servos, battery, just needed my receiver. So that plane satisfies my aerobatic/speed side. It's got a Thunder Tigre .90 in it. :D

I like what I see in the Birdi line. However, I do need a funfly/sport plane to replace my midaired Uproar. It was great, there were 7 planes in the air flying streamer combat, and I was the last one with a streamer. Figure out what happened next. :) A lot of the guys are flying the Worldmodels Sky Raider IIs for combat/sport flying, as well as combat. I like the lines on the Utter Chaos 40 and the Vagabond 40. Which one is faster? I'll be putting an OS .46 FX in the front.

My understanding is that the Vagabond is basically a Kaos with a turtle deck. Giving it a sportier look and helping the knife edge performance.

The Dirty Birdy has a swept leading edge and a straight trailing edge. The Kaos has a swept leading edge and trailing edge.

It wasn,t so much the plan form of the wing, as it was the airfoil.
