Hirtenberger engines
 

Does anyone out there know the model of an old hp 61 that had a blue cylinder about 1971 or 72.
I had one of these on a sterling lancer SL 62. I aquired the plane Now I want to get the engine.
Also can I get a semco muffler somewhere. Those were the days!!

Thanks for the reply. But I did get a semco muffler for my project.
I would still Like to find a HP with the blue cylinder.
I did get a silver star. this will work until I can find one.

look on ebay they were only made that way one year 1972 that was the import version at the time.the silverstar afterwards are the same engine,great engine I try to buy them whenever they pop up.

I am finally breaking in my never run Silverstar .61 in my 20-25 old Super Hots that I just completed rebuilding. I'm running it with an 11/6 APC for breakin. 15% Cool Power Nitro. You can check out my gallery. I could'nt believe how well this plane flies with this engine lots of power. Plane ways in at 6.25 lbs and the engine is producing 7.0 lbs static thrust @13,500 RPM. Runs great. Nothing wrong with the older engines, I actually prefer the quality of them over some of the new ones.

I have a Gold Cup that turns over 13,800 with an APC 11-7, 15% nitro and K&B 1L plug with a Semco Muffler. Chose the plug cause its black but it works good. I think the Gold Cup has a larger carb than the Silverline. The throat diameter is the same or slightly smaller, but there is no spray bar to restrict flow. I have not flown it yet, but someday.

I'm pretty sure my muffler on the Silverstar 61 is way too small just waiting for a larger one with better flow to see the difference. I think the engine will most likely totaly wake up a scare me. lol Can't wait for the weather to calm adown a little and go out again.

Neil, I recommend checking if this one will fit (41mm hole centers). Only $19, it's actually a tuned muffler and will add power. You can read about them in the engine forum. They are a very popular performance upgrade.

I was checking out the internet to see if anybody knew anything about hp ENGINES AND FOUND YOUR WEBSITE.
My name is Andrewand I live in Scotland where I am a farmer. Anyway I am jsut rerpairing an old aircraft and it has a blue top HP 61. I ran it today for the first time since probably 1975.
It ran fine but spewed fuel out of several places , probably needs new gasket sets. I may consider selling it. I also have a silver cyl head version of the same age,vcor a year older. I bought them both new in 1969 or approx.

my uncle has a (nib) rear intake version from the early/mid 70's up for auction this week. i do not recall if it is side or rear exhaust.

that should be a side exhaust .it was their first model.I have a rare silver front intake side exhaust that has a srew in type backplate like cox it was the proto type design for the production engines using the parts from the rr 61 .
