Curare dehidral
I'm going to start a Precision Models Curare that had been started by that original owner. Here's the problem: The wings were assembled with (what the original owner feels is) too much dihedral. I don't have the original plan set to refer to so I don't know what the correct dihedral should be. Anybody got a clue?????

This is the dihedral detail from the Model Airplane News plans. I have no idea whether or not other kit releases were different.

On another discussion list there was a case where someone had built a highly modified DB with no dihedral (it did have section thickness taper dihedral) and no wing tips. The pilot was having all sorts of trim issues. In other words, the dihedral that the designer settled on is probably the best choice. Especially, if we're talking about people like the Prettners. If I were building one I'd go with the 3"/75mm called for.

Mk Curare/Minare 40 :
Wing : 55mm Stab : 95mm Mine is build with less, ie, if you would measure the wing on the upper side, it's straight, and the only dihedral that it has, is due to the profile getting thinner on the tips. Still, it was flying like on rails |

If I were you I'd split the difference and go with 2 63/64" just to be safe.:D

According to the plan I have, it cites 2 degrees to each side of fuselage, as measured along centerline of wing. This is not the upper or lower surface. The tailplanes are 9 degrees downward to each side of the fuselage also.
Since the ribs, shown, die cut and drawn, do not fit the lines of the intended wing very well, I went and redrew the whole plan in CAD and used the above noted angles for determining the offset near tip. Wm. |
