renewed interest

Howdy everyone. I've just found this website. Been out of the hobby for about 15 years. I've always been interested in pattern. I have a GP Kaos60, dc kaos40, dirty bridi 60 fiberglass@foam. None of them are finished. Also have a futaba FP-T7UAF super. After finding this site I think I'll dust the stuff off and see whats there. I once built planes with precision built.
I had to quit building because of the balsa dust was killing me.[no joke] Well anyway I'm going to see if I can take the dust. I'll wear a mask. ;)
BTW, if your out there PM. Rick Terry Ralph Tony, PB crew. CYA Down in Texas, Mark

Welcome Back!!

Just a thought for the Balsa Dust...I'm planning to build a vacuum table...ie: A perforated top sitting on top of a funnel which I can plug my shop vac into...Hopefully this will aid in controlling the dust a bit (along with a dust mask of course)...

For starters..I thought I may try a piece of Peg Board for my top...If that doesn't work I'll have to come up with something else...

Good Luck getting going again...Looks like you have some fine Aircraft to get started with!!

Have Fun...

Sounds like building may be half the pleasure for you, but if your allergy is really bad you can avoid balsa all together.

You can have a lot of fun with electric foamies or ARF's with composite fuses and sheeted foam wings.

I've thought about a arf. I love building, but the dust and fumes got to me. I think my 7uaf is still good? I've got a 91 surpass, enya60, os fsr28. What kind of pattern designs are out there in those sizes that are arf. I'll buy one and get back to flying before I dig all my building stuff out.

I remember flying out at a field in Seguin one day that had R/C, free flight and C/L as well. I remember distinctly because I actually met George Aldrich out there one day... it was quite an experience. Was this your flying field?

RE: renewed interest

Yes it was one of them. It was randolph's aux. field. There still using it. The last time I flew there was about 18 to 20 years ago. Very nice flying field.

Take a look at Hanger 9's SHOWTIME 50 from Horizon Hobby. Flies great without the SFG's

RE: renewed interest

The showtime looks good. I like the replacement parts too.:D Since a 4 stroke will fit, My enya 60 xf-4 2 stroke should work. I got out the radio and the kaos 60. the kaos is all framed out and still looks in good shape. Thanks for the tip. I did a search on pattern planes. Most are 3d stuff. I guess reduced control throws would make them smooth. I wonder about flutter?

I'm kinda in the same situation as you are...I'm just getting back into this stuff after some time off...So I'm learning Allot from the Very Knowledgeable fellows that hang around here...

I havn't been able to come across very many "Classic" pattern ARF's thusfar...Maybe there are tons and I'm missing all of them?? he he

Honestly I really havn't come across a heck of allot of Classic "Kits" either...

Like yourself..I have a few "left overs" I can build..

There is an approved SPA design which I noticed is avaliable as an AFR by??...It's called the Intruder...There was a nice thread on one of those...I'll see if I can find the link...
Here it is...World A-6 Intruder:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5385024/tm.htm

I initially was thinking of a Daddy Rabbit...Only because I remembered it from the past and it was about the only SPA type aircraft I knew by name...But then I came across the Curare and have since forgot about the Daddy Rabbit...I fell in love with the Curare...

I just yesterday came across an older thread which contained a post from a fellow who offers the Curare60 Drawings and/or a Lazer Cut Wood kit...I've put myself on the list for two of the kits just today...I hope to have them sometime in May...I excited!!

There are quite a few more modern Pattern/3D ARF's avaliable as you have noticed...But I don't see alot of the Classics or SPA types out there??

If I come across some I will post here as well...

Have Fun...

Man that A-6 Intruder looks killer. My os91 surpass would work great . I've spent most of today searching topics and planes. Back when I was still building getting this much info took forever. Thanks and keep it coming.

RE: renewed interest

I just noticed something on the "Approved SPA List"...The A-6 Intruder is indeed on the list...However it states only two manufacturers are approved?? A-6 INTRUDER (Kirkland) A-6 INTRUDER (Airborne Models) Humm...May need some clarification on weather or not the World Models version is SPA Legal if you plan to fly contests..

Paternguy 04-01-2007 07:56 PM

RE: renewed interest

Airborne Models was World models US brand name at one time, probably was when the A6 was added to the list.

Atlanta 60 04-01-2007 10:33 PM

RE: renewed interest

Thank You Paternguy for clearing that up...So the ARF Intruder very well may be SPA approved huh...

That ShowTime 50 is pretty nice looking!!

Here is another one for ya if you havn't seen it yet...I kind have my heart set on being able to afford one of these in the next couple of weeks...I think it's pretty Kewl lookin'...
Oxalys 50:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3033086/tm.htm

Then I have to save up for a YS .63S and Hatori Pipe...Unless I cant wait..he he...Then I'll have to use one of my existing YS .45 Two Strokers...But Hopefully I can hold out for the little YS 4 Stroker...That would be Schweet!!

Have Fun...

I'm going to finish my kaos and put the enya 60 in it. Also I want to get the Intruder for my os91 surpass. My flight packs need to be updated. I have a futaba 7uaf super, and two flight packs. I'm wanting some bb servos. What number futaba servos are most using nowdays? I'm going to use a pull/pull rudder,[ tail dragger on kaos] and split elevators. Is there a new way of setting things up? Also where can I get a good deal on the servos and parts?
Thanks, Mark

Howdy. Need some help determining this Pattern Plane I was given. It has a fiberglass fuse....obechi covered foam wings and stab.
And....rods that the ailerons and elevators go over...but how to attach??? See my pics and give me an idea on it. thanks guys!!

Where are the pics? Does it have spar tubes? [Plug in wings and stab]. Is it built or just a kit?

Here is a picture. It has plug in wing panels...the stab is installed (not plug in). No torque rods inside the aluminum rods (maybe someone
didn't build it correctly or left something out).

If you want to get back into the air quickly with a minimum of dust etc, and you're an accomplished pilot, check out the NEW World Models Intruder 90. It has just been reintroduced after a time of being discontinued. A couple of us in SPA worked hand-in-hand with WM in an attempt to improve the plane, (it had previously been a good competitor, but only after certain mods were made--these mods are now part of the "street kit". The plane is also SPA-legal for the upper classes, and flys beautifully on a Surpass .91.

There are of course, a lot of other choices, but the Intruder is very popular in SPA circles, and flys smooth as silk.

By the way--forgot to mention that if your're getting your thumbs back in condition and need a pattern trainer--World's little T-34 ARF, or Cermark's Javelin are great-flying planes as well------they are very popular in Novice.

Thanks for the tips. I went to my local hobby shop yesterday. Jim [the owner] still remembered me.:) I found out how much I'm out of date. He carries the Intruder, but was out of stock. He said he could get me one. I was looking to update my 7uaf. He told me I should get a new system. I'm looking at the new Spektrum DX7. Has anyone used this system yet? It sounds impressive.
My thumbs are numb, eye sight who knows. I flew his simulator and looked like a rookie.
I'll check into the javelin and t=34. I'm going to need alot of practice.

Looking at those aileron tubes just isn't right.

I vote for mis-assembled, unless there's an attachment method I've never heard of. Can they be slipped down towards the root? If so, maybe then you could install music wire as normal. Very strange.

Someone correct me on this, but is the 7UAF the same thing as the Futaba Super 7? I have and fly one of those----(I was out of the hobby for years as well), it's on narrow band, and is a great radio. I've heard a lot of good things about that particular radio from a variety of experienced pilots, and I love mine.

There is certainly nothing wrong with the Spektrum DX7, but you may not absolutely need it unless your radio is wide-band. If your radio is a good radio, what's the rush, (unless you WANT TO UPDATE, of course)??
