The whole wing is in the picture!

It exploded, most of the foam pulverized. What you see is all that was left: Skins & Monokote

Wow! that had to hit extremely hard. Truly a Ballistic crash. I know it sounds morbid, but it would have been nice to catch that one on video.

So whats on the horizon to replace it?

Paul

Yak13 10-14-2015 12:52 PM

Due to the emotional distress that this crash caused, added to the suggestion of my colleagues at the field, I am discussing with wife the acquisition of a new DB, an Arrow and an Atlas.

Regarding the video, I suppose it could be re-created, but not sure I would do it on purpose.

Yes, I completely understand the justification process of a three to one scenario to replace the one we lost. A great strategy, I might add.

An understanding wife is definitely a necessity, May she be extra caring, nurturing and understanding as you put your true feelings out there.

Paul

Ouch. I am sorry to see that, but your replacement strategy seems sound .

Yak13 10-15-2015 03:43 PM

One thing is certain: They will land

I saw a "landing" like that at Lake Charles Nats years ago, at the Pylon Race venue--- could that have been you??

That's funny!!

bentwings 10-17-2015 09:38 AM

That's a beautiful crash! The tail was overbuilt however,

Yak13 10-17-2015 03:59 PM

LOL "Overbuilt"?

Jim Oliver 10-17-2015 07:29 PM

Yeah---you know that when a perfectly designed and constructed airplane crashes, every part should break........

dhal22 10-18-2015 01:26 PM

I nosed a plane in years ago with a resounding impact and asked if that was a 10 on the crash scale. I was told it wasn't close enough visually to warrant a 10. Tough crowd.....

Yak13 10-18-2015 05:22 PM

Is this one a 10? I can add that both tips of the stab broke off and the vertical fin was cracked all the way. Plus I get extra credit for vaporizing the wing.

flywilly 10-18-2015 05:42 PM

9.5 - no recognizable remains is required for a 10... keep trying :-o

bentwings 10-18-2015 06:11 PM

Yeah, I agree, 9.5 tops. We'll give a position in top 5 best crashes of the year though. Haha
