Engine for Rubin & Escape

Hello everyone:

I fly in México city which is at an altitude of over 2200 m (7300 ft) over the sea level.

Therefore we require bigger engines for our aircrafts in order to have an acceptable performance from our airframes.

I have a Rubin with a YS 60 w/pipe, but given the facts explained before I dont think this would be enough power.

Which engine would you recommend for this airplane, I have seen the Evolution 100 (2 strokes) , or the Saito 150 (4 strokes), or the SuperTiger 91....any recomendation will be very much appreciated.

I also have an Escape under the same situation. (with a OS Max 61 engin rear exhaust with tuned pipe).

Thanks in advance
VĂ*ctor Arreola.

Victor,

I would think a Saito 1.50 is too heavy- is made on a larger framed case, if you are to consider a 4 stroke look into a YS 1.10 or Saito 1.25. Run either with 25-30% nitro if possible.

In a 2 stroke I'm not certain a Supertiger 90 would give you much performance advantage over a piped OS or YS 61. The OS 1.20AX is very powerful and weighs less than the above mentioned 4 strokes, if need a boost over the piped 61's this would be your best bang per buck. No one in my area has an Evolution engine so I cannot comment.

Good luck & let us know what you decide.

RE: Engine for Rubin & Escape

oddy, I flew an Escape with a piped OS VF 61 on an 11-9 for a couple of years; great power at 700'. Now, the Supertigre 90 I think with a 12-9 prop on about 15-20% nitro would be a very good choice. I had an GP Aeromaster biplane with a Supertigre 75 on this same prop that would stay with the Escape in the level and out climb it easily. I would not write off the 90. The Super Tigres make good power.

RE: Engine for Rubin & Escape

ST 90 woulb be fine in the escape, but I agree with Lotus72d: the OS 1.20AX would be a great engine for the Rubin (originally designed for a YS 1.20AC). I have about 60 flights on a 1.20AX in a JR Explorer V90 whih is actually a bit bigger than the Rubin. I'm running an APC 15x10 - unlimiited vertical. Pretty good throttle response for a 2-stroke and sooooo easy to run - right out of the box!! Just 10% nitro, too. ST .90 or OS 91 FX would both be good choices for the Escape. I flew an OS 91FX with a performace Specialties Ultra-thrust muffler in a Widebody .60 with excellent results!
Good luck and happy flying,
Will B.
