Dash 5 Pattern Ship

When I was flying pattern in the pre-turnaround days, the plane I had was called a Dash 5. It was all wood kit, (no arf). I had an OS .61 rear exhaust pumper with a tuned pipe and tricycle retracts. It was a Japanese kit and I'm just wondering if the kit is still around or if it is now history. Internet searches turned up nothing, and I won't touch E-Bay with a ten foot pole. Does anyone remember this kit? Thanks.

I remember the plane although I didn't have one I did think it had a good look to it. If I remember correctly Ivan was flying one at the nats in the early 80's. I think it was kited by Kyosho?

The Dash 5 was kitted by Yoshioka Model Factory in Japan. A kit might show up on RCU or *-Bay every now and then. Yoshioka is still around but the kit is not still in production.

Yoshioka - that was the name I couldn't remember. Thanks. Probably no chance of finding one of these in kit form, but thanks to everyone for the help.

Too bad the Dash-120 was never imported here! Or any of the Sensation variations. [:o]
The Dash-5 was a great flying airplane, but more work to build than many guys wanted to undertake.
The Flash design actually succeeded the Dash-5 even though it is a much simpler aircraft (sort of like the Magic to Calypso transition).

My LAST and I do mean LAST encounter with eBay (for once PayPal had it right) took six weeks to straighten out--------their fault but it takes time for them to admit it as a matter if fact six weeks worth of emails---------------------No thanks ---- that was the last of several over the last three years.
I did find out that I was but one of a growing number however------unfortunately I had company----as it turns out LOTS of company.

Very true that it was a lot of work to build, but for me, that was half the fun, especially when the plane flew so well. Right now I'm building an all wood, 35% gasser for IMAC, talk about a lumber yard !! I love to build, and I'm sad that so many planes are ARF's today. I don't know why planes can't be offered in both forms, arf and kit form. It would seem that the manufacturers could please everyone that way.

I agree MRBASSMAN. I wish there were more kits. Ironically, most of the new ARFs start out as laser cut 'kits' which are then assembled into ARFS. It would seem logical (and simple) to kit them. Maybe someday....

I was in Singapore Hobby Supplies last week. I spent about 6 hours over the course of the week browsing their store. It's hard to believe they have so many models crammed into a store the size of an average bedroom.

Anyways, they had dash kits in several sizes. I remember seeing a .25, .45 and a five (which said it was for .60 size motors).

I hope that helps.

EMail Singapore hobbies and ask for A Dash-5 kit (the .60 version). THey don't always publish everything they have in stock in their pricelist!!
I've never been there, but a friend of mine was there in 2000 and was just amazed - probably one of the best hobby shops in the world (certainly from a pattern perspective).
They are great folks to deal with (the Yongs). Frederick has flown in at least one FAI F3A World Championship.

I don't think you have anything to feel bad about Chuck, in fact quite the contrary. It's just not in all of us to squeeze every last dime out of a fellow modeller. Something cool going to a buddy where it's really appreciated is much more satisfying I think to most of us. OK- sappiness over with[>:] Back to pattern! Have some fun, jeff
