YS 45, pipe and plane?
Hi all,
I have an old but reliable YS 45SE 2 stroke sitting around and was interested in building a 40 size ballistic pattern ship. I would like to put retracts into the model for a nice clean look in the air. I guess I want a cross between a speed plane and a pattern plane? Any suggestions ? Thank you for the help. |

This comes to mind...The Ultra Sport 40:

Have you tried the SPA website? There is a list of balastic plane of the era before the cutoff date in 1976. There is also a list of kit manfacturers where you can purchase the short kits or even some ARCs or ARFs. I have built a Troublemaker from Eureka and have posted a picture of it here. I have it powered with a 91 magnum four stroke. Hope this helps you find what you are looking for. The link for the SPA website is :

RE: YS 45, pipe and plane?
I love old-school but they are kits and hard to find- I actually got ahold of a Global Avance with retracts and it flew very well and was quick as well. I am not typically a fan of Global but I got a kick out of that thing!
The Ultrasport would be a great fit, it'd be nice if the Javelin was a tad smaller/lighter for the YS, man I love the YS-45! |

Thank you for the help....
The ultra sport is OK but I was hoping to find something with a pipe tunnel. Did any of those older planes have tunnels ? Also a tail dragger with retracts for simplicity if available. The Javelin II looks nice, but not sure if I can do retracts? I have read reports that you need to bend the gear forward to keep it from tiping. A kit would be fine. I am partial to orange as you can see. |
RE: YS 45, pipe and plane?
To be honest I am looking for pretty much the same kind of airframe as you--- ;)
Piped with retracts although I prefer 60 size (YS-60RE). basically Ballistic pattern ship with retracts & pipe, as it should be! |

Hey...Are you interested in scratch building?? You sound like a candidate for an Aurora45s..he he
I could hook you up with drawings ect... There is an Awesome build thread by Bootlini who is scratch building a Aurora60 for referance...His will be electric powered!! It's Kewl.. Eventually I wanna build a mold and do a glass fuse of the Aurora's...But that will be a wintertime project (Hopefully)...(Which wintertime has yet to be determined...lol...But hopefully this up coming) Singapore hobbies may still have Belly Pans and Canopys available for the 45...They did last time I checked but that's been a while ago...If not...I'll be splashing mine so we can re-produce them...I could do that anytime...The Fuse mold will necessitate making a master model...So that will be later on... Here are some photos so you can see what I'm talking about... If you like it...I'd suggest you take a look at Bootlini's thread...It's Awesome!! http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4978792/tm.htm Have Fun... Chuck |

Wow the Aurora is one of my all-time favorites (Atlanta and EU1A are on top). I build like a 7 year old [X(]
