Why can't the BPA style and the SPA style compete head to head!!!!??? That would get me to drive from north AL. to Orlando!!! As proven from our contest here in Huntsville there is no disparity between the power plants just ask Don,Jason, Joe or Ryan they were here...

I agree. If we start to see any SPA members drop off, then the combo may appear.

RE: FLORIDA VINTAGE PATTERN ASSOCIATION CONTEST

Hi Gary:
Your points on SPA VS BPA were very well taken. Something I never thought about mainly because I was prejudiced by SPA thinking. I souldn't agree with you more as to there really isn't any difference in aircraft.

In retrospect and reviewingf your points, the Tangerine SPA vs BPA contest is being renamed to the " Tangerine SPA vs BPA Challenge". In this, all SPA/BPA or Historic will be competing head to head as you call it. The contest will still be held December 1, 2, 2007 and will be flying the SPA sequences NOVICE, SPORTSMAN and EXPERT. These can ve downloaded from the SPA web site.

We will try to fly 6 rounds weather permitting (it gets dark around 5:00 P.M.) Hopefully we can get an early start in the morning (sometimes in December we have low ceiling and have to wait it out for flying). We will try to get 4 rounds in on Saturday and 2 on Sunday then have the awards presentation.

I hope you can make it.

Orlando

P.S. Can someone explain how I can attach the contest flyer to these posts?
TIA.

RE: FLORIDA VINTAGE PATTERN ASSOCIATION CONTEST

Hi Gary:
Glad that you can make it. I understand from talking to Humberto and Mike Constantine, Ryan, Jason, Joe Walker are coming. I'm sure they will be flying BPA.
I'm trying to finish my "Arrow". It's all painted, servos are in, pushrods installed. Pnematic retracts are in, need to set the axels and wheels. Mount the engine and test, cut the header and test fly. I don't know if I can have it ready, but I am trying.

BTW:
Hotels are fairly easy to get, but perhaps go to hotels.com and make reservation if needed at one of the local motels.
The most popular are the
Howard Johson on Noth O.B.T (SR 441) in Apopka, nicer places are the Best Western on Douglas Ave in Altamonte Springs and also the Holiday Inn (may be pricey). These are the places where the patten guys and pylon racing guys use toi stay at.

In any event, here is the scoop on the contest:
To all interested pilots:

This is a reminder for the up and coming SPA vs Historic (BPA) Challenge to be held on December 1, 2, 2007 at RCACF field in Apopka Florida (check website www.rcacf.com for contest flyer, map and location). It is very important we have a good turn out. Spread the word to other pilots who may be interested in flying. Remember if you fly SPA Novice you need not be a member of SPA. If you fly Historic or BPA you do not need to be a member of SPA. However, you must be an AMA member to fly SPA or Historic/BPA or to fly at RCACF field.

Both categories SPA/Historic will be flying NOVICE, SPORTSMAN and EXPERT. SPA and Historic will compete head to head. The schedules may be downloaded from the SPA website www.seniorpatter.com .
This should make things very interesting and exciting. Contestant judging will be utilized.

Event Registration begins at 8:00 A.M., Registration fee $20.00, (Note- you may choose to fly both SPA and Historic with associated airplanes, the fee for this will be $30.00), Pilots meeting at 9:15, and flying begins at 9:30. I plan on flying 6 rounds, 4 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. The AMA scoring parameters will be used for scoring. The field will be open for practice on Friday November 30, 2007 I will try to be there about 3:00 P.M.

Spread the word to fellow pilots who you may think are interested, invite them come and participate. Make this a successful event.

I'll be there with my Cutlass. The Escape fuselage has been repaired and recovered, but the equipment hasn't been reinstalled. I'll probably have it with me, but there isn't time for any testing or trim flights. Linda and I are driving down Friday night and staying at her Dad's house.

At this time it looks like I will be able to make it. Plane to drive to Hobe Sound on Friday and then drive up to Orlando on Saturday. I'm really looking forward to flying in Orlando again. After 20 years it will be great to fly in a Pattern Contest again. I will be flying Novice since I haven't gotten the Super Kaos done yet.

I have a few questions about the Expert and Sportsman sequences if you guys could help me with.

Does the Top Hat have a 1/2 roll up and down on the legs?

What is a Running Eight?

When/where do you roll to inverted for the Inverted Reverse Cuban Eight? Is it like the old Straight Inverted Flight and One Reverse Outside Loop as far as entry? It has half rolls?

What is a Rolling Eight?

I'll be flying the Caylpso through these so I want to make sure I'm doing it right. Joe and Ryan have the Phoenix 8 (or 6/7) flying again.

I guess you can say the contest is getting started...

Don Lowe was out there today with his Phoenix 10. After some needle adjustments and a new prop, he was off and running. He even let me take a flight on it since I didn't get my Calypso done. But I've got all the parts for it so tomorrow I'll go fly it. There was also this other guy out there. I thought for sure I recognized him... but something was different...
