Anybody remember the Monster pattern...
Does anyone remember a giant pattern plane called the "Monster". I can't remember exactly but I think it was a 2 or 3 part article in one of the magazines. It looked like a giant Dirty Birdy with a span of about 100 inches. It used a weed or chain saw motor that ultimately became the G-62 I think. The motor was a go cart motor for a while if I remember my go cart days. The article did a story on how the motor was prepared. As I recall it ran about 10k rpm and made unbelivable power for it's day. I think the plane was a 100 mph plane when they flew it.
I know I had these articles and may have even had the plans but they all floated away in hurricane Hugo. I would really like to build this one just for fun not competition since I have a spare G-62 just looking for a home. |

Bentwings,
The Monster by Roger Sanders was published in the May, July & September 1982 issues of MAN. The plan is still available from [link]http://209.196.57.92/Me2/Default.asp[/link] As you say it was basically a scaled up (94" span) Dirty Birdy. Here are a couple of quick scans from Part 1. Ray |

Hi,
That's the one!!! I'm going to order the plans. Probably put my spare G-62 in or the 5.8 Precision Eagle. Thanks a bunch. |

Bentwings,
Would you like a pdf copy of the article as I have the three issues of MAN. It is rather long but makes interesting reading. If so please PM me your e-mail address and I will scan them tomorrow. Ray |
