Don't know if you are still doing the plane database, but if you are, just got this Mistress and will be taking it to Dave Phillip's contest this weekend. Plans were drawn on 12/26/87 by Larry Phillips. Plane kitted by Phillips Aircraft Company. Wing span 67 in, Lenght 64.5 in, Wing area 829 sq.in. This plane has OS 91 SurpassII for power. Am still learning how to fly it well enough to try it in the contest. Plane designed by David Von Linsowe. Any info anybody has would sure like to hear from you.

Oldpatflr,
That is certainly a beautiful plane you have there. Sorry I cannot help you with any information, but I asked about this plane a year or so ago and RFJ came up with a little infromation if I remember correctly. The reason I inquired about it is that I had been talking to a very good friend who I fly with about the plane. He has been flying for many years and is the best RC pilot I know. Anyway, he said he used to have a Mistress with a YS-61 2 stroke and he told me it was the most neutral and honest plane he ever built or flew. He said his plane would stay in any position that he put it into, until he moved the sticks again. Good luck at the contest with your Mistress. Let us know how it turns out for you.....:D:D David |

Thanks Dave and David.
I intend to go to Morris, but am having some back problems. If I can get out of bed Friday, I'll be there. Will bring EU1-A and my quiet Escape. Must leave the UFO's home this time. Hope lots of people and neat planes show up. DAVE W. |

Hi Ralph, I own an Ivan Kristensen Saturn, have been flying it but never knew where the cg was. So I play around with it. I was told that at one time you manufactured the kit, would you still have the cg location in inches. That would be greatly appreciated. I sent in my Rhom Airs to Down and Lock and what a difference re reliability. This is one nice flying plane. Years ago, I flew Don Coleman's Cutlass. I know the Saturn comes from that plane, as I was the one that had the plans from Don when I met him at toledo. So I had the Cutlass way before it came out in MAN. Those plans are gone, and it has been a long time, so don't remember the numbers.
Thanks Bob Forest MAAC 4131-L |
RE: Classic Pattern Plane Image-base
The MAN plan for the Saturn SE says CG is 6 inches back from the leading edge at the root.
It could be a good/safe place to start and fine tune from there Just happens to be almost directly over the main wheels, so as to achieve the scale like rotation of the plane before liftoff. I preferred to have my main wheels about a inch further behind to give me some leeway if I wanted to move the CG further back. |
RE: Classic Pattern Plane Image-base
Thanks, I have it at 5 5/8", so that should be good.

RE: Classic Pattern Plane Image-base
just love the effort on this thread... bump back to the front. ;)

RE: Classic Pattern Plane Image-base
Flew the Saturn last Sunday and without quesition the cg location made a big improvement, especially in the take off. I had it way too no heavy. it is now at 5 5/8" and will be moving it to 6", I could see that it was still a bit nose heavy. All in all very happy with the flight. Going from an IMAC plane 30% to this, I can tell you, it is bloody fast. It sure is a beautiful looking plane.

Hi Bob (MGA),
Welcome to the classic pattern forum - if that's indeed the case. That's a nice looking Saturn! I was looking at your profile and saw your CAP 232 - beautiful model. I love CAP's! In fact, I'm sure I might have seen your CAP in the flesh at a Telus event 2 or 3 years ago in Angrignon park. I think it was a JDRF fund raiser. Possible? In any case, it's good to find someone else in Montreal who has an interest in the classics. Perhaps one day we can get together and talk shop. I think you might have a few years on me so I'm sure I could learn heaps from you! :) David. P.S. Here are a couple of snaps of the Tipo that I should get finished before the year closes. |
RE: Classic Pattern Plane Image-base
Jeez.... I thought my eyes were going bad cuz I thought that was some sort of new type landing gear!! [X(] :D
|
RE: Classic Pattern Plane Image-base
CG,
your eyes don't betray you! Latest tech from the East. It allows you to smeeeaaar the plane in on landing. Bounces back nicely too! :D How goes the monitoring on this pesky bunch of us? Maybe things will smooth out in the ensuing days... A little embarassing having the wives step in! [X(] :) Time to get those Kraft Multicons into the Tipo. David. |

There is a single wing bolt on the rear of the wing with two bolts in the front. That was the way Bill's was. Here is mine I flew just yesterday but it was built in 1995

RE: Classic Pattern Plane Image-base
Very nice video and impressive flying. I've never seen (or even heard of) the NSX before. Thanks for adding a little to my pattern plane knowledge.

I know the tread is a bit old to bump back up but i was wondering the image base is just gone or it moved to a different website ?
Because i tried to have a look at it for some paint scheme ideas but it says it doesn`t load (well attleast for me ) Erik |
.......
|
Erik, I don't know what your problem is, but I tried loading the image from #415 and it worked fine. What were you trying to load??
|
Yeah this forum works but the internet site were they were all organized by alphabet not anymore (the link on page 1)
http://www.trentonrcflyers.com/pattern/pattern1.htm Erik |
That site has been down for months.
|
Ah ok,I`ve send the threadstarter a PM but i don`t think it is much use since he hasn`t been online in a good while but if he still has the website on his computer would maybe be nice to put it up in the air again.
Erik |
