Well day one of Perry is done and now the beer is cold and going down well… Several of the SPA guys where around and Bruce showed up later this afternoon and the secret weapon appeared.
The deception project was a 9 day build.. All the foam and parts where cut and plane was started, including making a plug and mold for the canopy. There will be short kits available foam cores and plans and a canopy. Pricing will be finalized in the next few day but should be around $ 65.00 for all. A deluxe sheeted version will also be available. Any other version will have to be discussed. Well here is a picture and inquires can be thru [email protected] More from Perry on Saturday Scott239 |

RE: New SPA Plane
Well, I'll take a WILD guess that the concern is about kitting rights. Of course, those belonged to Joe Bridi who is no longer in business. Don't know if Bluebird owns the rights, now.
Since nobody is currently producing a kit, hard to say. Technically, there are a bunch of 're-kits' that fall into this 'gray' area (including the Curare and Aurora). Historically, potential conflict has been avoided by simply renaming the design (all the FK kits were copies of existing designs: Arrow, Curare, Blue Angel, etc.). The PA-2 was a very popular fiberglass 'knock-off' of the Aurora. Most of us are so happy to see the old designs available again (I'm going to buy a Deception, myself) that there is little or no concern with any infringement. Personally, I don't know the legal aspects, but I think it is safe to say that a lawsuit would cost far more than the meager profits being reaped by these small kit makers. Any Experts out there who want to contribute? I REALLY do NOT want to open any 'cans of worms'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
RE: New SPA Plane
Didn't Great Planes kit that for a while too? Maybe they were part of the buyout.

RE: New SPA Plane
As the designer of the "Peppermint Pattie" series (.15, .40, .60) I can say that although at the time I hoped to have some profit from the design (never really happened) at this point I am just happy to know that some other people like my design. This is a real closet hobby, no-one will get rich off of old designs.
BTW, I have been approached to give my designs to a short kit manufacturer, and I am happy to do so without financial reward. If some people build the PPs and enjoy them, then I will be fulfilled. I am selling the plan sets for my copy cost to those who like it. actually, I am thinking about building one myself now. (Imagine that!) |
